So I’m putting in an Amazon order and did a search for BOV F150 and this item came up. Reviews are great and say they love the enhanced turbo pshhht sound this aluminum plug is putting out. Sounds too good to be true for $20 but I’m curious, anyone try one or have an opinion?

I bought this because my BOV box came fucked up and the plug was missing. The only thing this does is plug the hose that connects to the stock BOV because it doesn't vent to air, it vents through the hose and back, which is also inefficient. So when you get a VTA adapter like someone linked in another thread or a BOV that is VTA, the hose needs to get plugged. That's what this does.

You would need to get a VTA filter for the stock BOV, or an aftermarket BOV but those will likely bring their own plug (unless you're unlucky like me)

Got it, so I’ll have a fancy aluminum plug to use but still need to get the $300+ BOV piece to get proper sound.

Are you happy with the upgraded BOV?

Love it. Makes me smile every time. Our stocks don't VTA so to use this you'd have to get the VTA filter for stock that someone posted in the "what did you do this week" thread, and then plug the tube. It'll be more efficient, but you won't get the noise like an aftermarket BOV

this with my 2019 2.7. It sounded great in combo with the awe exhaust. But I will find out soon what a real BOV sounds like! Lol

Just came in yesterday!

Just the other day I learned about the VTA mod and instead of going that route I capped the intake side with a cap suitable for 1-1/4” diameter and then got this filter for the stock bov. Cheap and easy mod and I’m super happy with it!!

How did it get determined that the stock BOV needs filter? Just because of its location? Does the PCM command it open under some vacuum situations?

All my time around turbos and turbo tuning and never heard of anyone putting a filter on a venting BOV/BPV.

Honestly it was just peace of mind for me as I seem to spend lots of time on dirt roads I’m sure it’s not necessary. That being said the filter did change the sound so it’s slightly more of a bov passshhh now.

So now that I’ve had both the ATV mod and the smart turbo BOV. Two things I’ve noticed.
1. The ATV mod seams to blow off more often (if that makes since)
2. The turbo smart is louder but doesn’t release as often so it’s not as annoying. (I had the ATV mod on my old truck for 2 years)

Now the only other thing that could be the difference is the turbos on the 2.7. Maybe they caused the release more often. I prob wouldn’t have got the turbo smart if I hadn’t swapped out the intercooler but it was super easy and actually looked more complicated to swap the stock BOV. Overall I did the install by myself and it took about an hour. I didn’t lift the truck but I did use a floor jack to help lift the intercooler back up in place.

That is handy to know I was definitely wondering what the benefits were to going aftermarket.

I think the best part is it’s a solid piece of equipment. Stock is plastic and this is metal. If one goes with aftermarket intercooler this is almost a must IMO. But if one doesn’t plan on it I would waste my time swapping out just a BOV. The turbo smart has a nicer more crisp sound but I don’t see the value unless your doing the IC swap. I also took out the top 2 fins to allow more air to flow in
