In early November a CV joint failed and now transmission has failed 500 miles from home. My truck has 30k miles. It happened on a Sunday and no word from out of state Ford dealer on next steps. Under the 3 yr window but out rental car and other expenses. Sounds like ford will cover first $1k in rental car but may take weeks to repair. I will keep forum updated on overall outcome. So much for having a newer low mileage truck. Argh!

Sorry to hear! My bumper to bumper just expired and I have noticed my steering rack is seeping grease at the dust boot passenger side. Time to buy the extended Ford warranty.

My CV did the same thing on the passenger side as well. About 3 months out from my 36 month expiry and plan to purchase a warranty as well. I thinking about going with Granger as they support this forum. We drive <10K per year now, so may purchase the 100k 10 year plan. Give me some peace of mind. I normally don’t buy a warranty but a no brainer now on this Ford. I only purchased one other car warranty for a Porsche and I can tell you maybe saved me from >$40k. For the record no abuse from me on the truck. BS to lose a CV joint and a tranny so early in the trucks life. Don’t get me started on how good my 300k mile Nissan Titan performed. Batteries and fluid changes was it. Crazy good!

Heads up, no claims are allowed within the first 30 days. Took about 7 business days to get my Tremor inspected.

Sorry to hear about your truck. What model year was it?

21s and some 22s don’t have the revised CDF drum which is responsible for 85% of 10R80 failures. We haven’t seen any 23+ 10R80 failures yet.

Mine is a 2023 F-150. What a PITA dealing with this. I was in desperate need for a rental car on Sunday and they did not tell me it must be a Ford to get paid back. I need someone to note this on the site as a learning tool. If you have a fail >100 miles from home under warranty rent a FORD if possible. I think up to $40 day is the current payback. I just had work done on the truck so likely human error of some sort.

Did you have any symptoms leading up to the failure? My '21 won't engage in reverse for a few seconds intermittently, usually after sitting for a few days. Trying to get it to replicate at the dealership is proving impossible of course. I've got ~60k on the truck and extended warranty out to 100k luckily.

I think not going into reverse may be normal. Mine seemed to stumble or hard shift on occasion. It may take a few weeks to get it moved from middle of nowhere to my home dealer. None of the local ford dealers have time for it. Ford corporate is having it moved for me. It may be forever to get answers for everyone. Ford corporate seems better than the local guys. They told me 2 -3 weeks to even look at it in FL. I was polite and professional and they don’t care. Severe shortage of quality mechanics.

I know this is a PITA, but you’re still under the powertrain warranty and even if you have to wait a month, you’ll be back in your truck before you know it.

My 5.0 was replaced at 4K miles voluntarily because a bad dealer didn’t know how to replace a $16 rear-main seal and bunged the job up, TWICE. Leading ford to replace the engine at a different dealer to avoid lemon law. Was without my truck for about 2 months. So stupid. Engine was fine. Just a stupid tech.

If available, it’s definitely a gamble to not purchase a factory backed ESP on any modern vehicle from any make. $700-$1K “minimum” repair bills will become standard across the board.

What is involved in the inspection?
Not much honestly. They take some pics around the truck. Pop the hood and check the oil. They look for any mods so the only thing caught was the catch can. It did not impact anything. They'll need you to take them for a 5 minute or 5 mile drive. They never looked under my truck or Bronco with inspections done by two different folks, and in different states.

Some rental car companies will give better rates if your vehicle is getting repaired. I want to say Enterprise was the one that did it for me about 5 or so years ago.

Well, if they don't lookin under the truck they won't see the downpipes and maybe they miss the suspension. The high mount intercooler might get missed and the turbo inlet pipes are black so they might miss those. The catch can and the intake hopefully is all they see, lol.

Inspection of under 3 year 36k miles? Thoughts?

It appears, through Granger at least, that you'd qualify for their new vehicle plan. They do not mention a need for it to be inspected. They explicitly say an inspection is needed for their used vehicle plans.
