5.0 vs Ecoboost

It doesn't actually. There are as many threads on what type of oil to use as there are comparing ecoboosts to the V8's on all the forums and facebook pages. It boils down to personal preference in the end.

I ordered the 5.0.
Sound was the biggest reason that along with arguably and in my personal opinion better reliability.

If you don't care about sound and think the 3.5 is reliable then the 3.5 drives better honestly. That low end torque.

You may could have made an argument that the V8 was more reliable before they implemented cylinder deactivation. I'd say it's a wash now, if not giving the 3.5 the edge. I'd take the 2.7 before the 5.0, given a choice.

I couldn't care what it sounds like, in fact I prefer a quieter truck. I do care how it tows my boat. Nice that we have choices now though.

I like the 3.5 but yes, it is good we have choices now. I don't know if anybody saw this yet but added it below. Just another point of view.

Yeah so a 2016, direct fuel injection isn’t really comparable to the current Gen.

I guess a better way to say it is that the eco-boost is the future. So it has continued to be refined. The 5.0 is old tech and will be phased out sooner rather than later.

I like old school. I just never trusted turbos. To each their own. If both engines were bulletproof no doubt the 3.5 is the better driving engine. 5.0 selling point is for us old school guys that can't see an American truck without that V8.

3.5 will be phased out too. Some states faster than others. EV or hybrid is the real future.

Keep fighting the good fight brother.

We are decades from EVs being a reality for everyone, let alone for trucks. A Lightning wouldn’t even be a viable option for me right now. Just straight up doesn’t have the capacity to do the work that I need it to do.

It’ll get better but we are a long way off, even if the battery tech was there the infrastructure isn’t there. And that includes California.

I went with the 5.0 personally keeping it simple and better sound cylinder deactivation has been around for a while that dont worry me now the 3.5 with a twin turbo pushing a v6 to 400hp same as the v8 is a little more stress on the engine in my opinion and more things that can go wrong later down the road with added electronics i been a heavy equipment mechanic for since 2013 and every turbo issue i have seen has not been pretty and very costly and they dont last forever thats for sure but everyone has their own opinions do what best suits your needs

I ordered my '23 earlier this month. I was initially ecstatic about the 5.0 option because of the V8 sound. That said, I ultimate went with the 3.5.

My reasons were:
1) TFL Ike gauntlet showed towing with the 5.0 required higher RPMs to maintain the same speeds with the same loads. I'd rather the engine operate at lower RPMs when working hard.
2) Forced induction will maintain power at altitude over NA engine.
3) 3.5 has better power under warranty than 5.0. Bumping up the power on 3.5 a bit is relatively cheap. To get to the same point with the 5.0 requires a significant investment in a supercharger setup.
4) If I want some decent sound out of the 3.5, I've seen some videos where a resonator delete/straight pipe actually sounds nice. It won't ever be as dynamic/throaty as the V8 but I'll never be interested in extreme exhaust so it's a minor trade.

5.0 for me... don't care for ecoboost as grew up in a V8 family. Last year I ordered and bought my 2022 F250 Tremor with the 7.3 as I was disappointed that the 150 Tremor wasn't offered in 5.0 but this year my wife
and I made a choice to order the 150 Tremor V8. Tired or hearing the 3.5 is better and more powerful... who gives a sh!t, it's a personal choice.

5.0 - sound

3.5 EB - everything else
I've owned a half dozen 3.5's and only one 5.O in a 14 Mustang. I never had any issues with any of them. I almost never have the windows open and always have music on, so can't hear how the engine sounds. I had my reservations at first when I bought a 12 Lincoln MKT, but like all the other 3.5's after it, it was fine.

That’s a longer sentence than Brittney Griner served.

I agree with all those points except #4. It doesn’t matter how much money you throw at it, it’s always going to sound like a gay hamster farting after a hot date.

While I love my 5.0 in my 1900 pound F1, I can't see a benefit in a modern (heavy) truck. For the sound, I just saw a video from AWA that the 3.5 sounded... good.
