So I gave the ambient lighting installation a go to today. Once I found all the bolts it seemed smooth till I got to the actual wiring harness part.
Not to sound ungrateful, however I could be dumb, but the instructions I had were kind of vague.
I was able to get the phone cubby thing light to work, but my cup holders are a no go. I was literally just plugging shit in everywhere because the instructions made no sense to me.
Can anyone help me out here with some details on how to do this? Below are the instructions I referenced.
Also if anyone is in the San Diego area and has done this and would be willing to meet up let me know. Beers on me!
1. remove the 2 side wings of the center console(they look like hockey sticks)
2. remove the lower trim panels of the console
3. remove all the bolts holding the console(i believe there is 6)
4. fold your shifter down if you have one
5. undo the wiring harness on the right side, there may be one on the left side also i think i saw that mentioned.
6. slide console back(it doesnt need to go very far just enough to get the center piece where the cup holders are out)
7. remove the trim(black) piece that has the cup holders in it, unhook the antenna
8. locate the connector for the console light(big armrest) and unplug it
9. plug in the media bin harness to the console light(the T part of the harness)
10. run the short end of the harness to your media bin light and connect it
11. leave the long end of that harness hanging out the right side of the console.
12. swap out your cup holder
13. plug in the harness for the cup holder(3 connectors), youre going to use the connector by itself not the T end.
14. run the rest of the harness out the right side of the console
15. slide your console back in place
16. run the long end of the media bin/glove box harness up to the glove box(drop your glove box down to install the light)
17. drop the felt liner under the glove box down
18. locate the footwell ambient light and unplug it, now take the T of the cup holder harness and plug it into the ambient light.
19. test the lights, to test the media bin/glove box just turn the truck on, they will remain on 15 mins after the truck is shut off fyi
20. test the cup holders, if its dark out and your headlights are in auto they will come on, if its not dark out you can cover the ambient light sensor, or you can move the headlight switch to the parking light postion. this will turn the ambient lights on. after doing this move your headlight switch back to auto. you must go back into sync and turn the ambient lights back on after doing this. moving to the parking light postion overrides the sync settings.
21. put it all back together and enjoy your new lights.
