Are there any Raptor owners who converted over to the new F150 Tremor?

I posted this thread on the Raptor forum and I"m sure you can guess what kind of responses I got. I would love to hear responses from you all.

Newbie to this forum --I've been cross shopping these two trucks for some time and I've briefly driven a Gen 2 raptor several months ago and recently drove a new 2021 fully loaded Tremor.

I live in AZ, where the Raptor literally was born to shine, but with the caveat that I live in the northern part of the state at about 7k feet. So we get some decent snow and occasional ice during the winters.
I currently have a 2020 4runner TRD Pro with 24k miles on it, which is a fantastic suv, albeit seriously underpowered at altitude, especially when climbing back home from Phoenix.
I want to change vehicles b/c I need something with more power, better comfort as I do the 3 hour drive to Phoenix and then back about 2x/month, along with a 9+ hour drive to southern California once a month or every other month.
I plan to do light off roading up in the mountains and then occasional desert running maybe a few times a year.

There are no Raptor allocations where I live but I have one waiting for me out of state at the dealership where I bought my previous Shelby GT350 a few years ago--> at MSRP.
I'm also considering a 2022 Tremor, which I thought drove much smaller than its size, which makes it a great DD. It will be plenty capable off road for my needs, and it has trail turn assist, which is just so much fun to use when off road. Downside: it's not worth spending $68k on this truck w/o serious discounts given the crazy depreciation it will have over the next 3-4 years.
If the truck could be had with a $10k discount, it would be a different story. In terms of fun factor, it's apples and oranges...........the Raptor was designed to be a baja racing truck designed from the ground up by Ford racing team. The Tremor is a modified F150 that is more off road capable with a slightly better suspension than a FX4 package.
Right now, its' easy to order a Tremor and get it at MSRP, but without X plan pricing (which I don't have access to), it seems nuts to spend MSRP on this truck.

Raptor pros/cons: as above, super fun to drive, and since I had to sell my Shelby earlier this year, I definitely miss having a fun car, and if this can be a good DD for all seasons/purposes, then it fits that bill for me (maybe until I can get a Raptor R.....lol). It will also hold its value so much better than the Tremor. Cons: wide body can make driving it in tight spaces a little challenging, including airport parking, etc. More electronics, so maybe more that can go wrong?

I don't tow/haul much of anything, and if I did, the Tremor would be the clear winner. I'll put a bike or kayak in the bed on weekends-- so either truck is fine for that.

Any thoughts/advice? I feel like if the Tremor was being discounted as though this was a 'normal' car buying cycle, and could be had for $55-57k fully loaded, it would be a harder decision.
But the way my Raptor is built, it's just over $73k, while the Tremor is at around $68k.
Any other downsides/cons I need to think about with the Raptor?

Final point: I have a few concerns about ordering anything right now, with chip/parts shortages and hope that quality doesn't suffer. Maybe it's better to wait, but then my 4runner will also be worth much less when things straighten out, when I'm considering a trade.

No issue ordering for me, pretty normal wait times for the 22's it seems like.

You can find a club to join for a small fee and then get X-Plan through the club. Have heard of others doing this. If not and your willing to buy out of State, you can find dealers selling 3% under invoice on this forum.

I had no idea you could get X plan pricing through a club. If you know the name, that would be a huge help. It save around $8-9k I think. I"m not sure what the 3% of invoice would be-- and yes, I would buy out of state.

I take that back: It's the A plan and Z plan pricing that would save about $8-9k off MSRP. The X plan pricing is Invoice -.4% + $275 program fee.

So invoice - 3% would be the best option for sure-- if I was to stick with a Tremor

I never owned a Raptor, however it has been my favorite truck since it came out. That said, the F150 Tremor is way more practical and is now my new favorite truck. I'm not sure if that counts.. but if the F150 Tremor didn't exist I would be looking at used Raptors..

I have wanted a Raptor since the day they were released. As you mentioned, tow capacity sealed the deal for me, as I do tow. On my street there are three Raptors, a 2015, 2018, and a new 2021 (next door neighbor who works for Ford). I have driven all three either around town or off-road during camping trips (Wickenburg/Sedona). The Raptor (all three generations) does exactly what it was designed to do, its a terrific truck and makes you smile.

That said, the Tremor is is down 50HP and 10FtLbs. I have an intake, exhaust, and a pedal box, put it in sport mode, being lighter and on 33s, I took the 2021 time and time again.

The Tremor does drive smaller. I also appreciate the gas mileage from a commuting standpoint (33s and 3.73s vs 35s/37s and 4.10s). I'm at 2,500 miles, broken in, and now up into the 18s on lifetime MPG. Next door is at 2,000 miles and still sitting at sun 14 mpg (35s). Today, I did a 250 mile round trip from Cave Creek up through Prescott valley and back (1,800' - 5,500') up and down the 17/69. Averaged 17.7 mpg on the trip at 70-80mph. Won't get that in a Raptor driving to and from Phoenix.

Sky harbor parking... Tremor is 79.3", Raptor is 79.8" tall. Terminal 4 is 80". Your call if you want to cut it that close. Economy lot is 72" and where I park if driving the Tremor.

Here's where I'll get shunned. Personally, if I was going to buy a Raptor, it'd be a first gen all day long. Yes it is the "slowest" but the way it pulls and handles off-road made me smile. Being naturally aspirated, it would be lacking like the 4Runner up North, but had to add that part. :)

Edit: I have had two Jeep JKs with the 5 speed auto. My pops has a 2019 4Runner TRD Off road with the 5 speed auto. Those transmissions are ancient and STRUGGLE the whole way up to Flagstaff, so I feel you there. I haven't been to Flag yet, but Prescott and Sedona, and I am happy to say that this 10 speed is PHENOMINAL.

Hello, I have owned 2 first Gen Raptors. They were both DD and our family vacation vehicle to the beach. Back in August I was hit on my way to work and my Raptor was totalled. I was very upset but kept it in check because I was ok as was the person that hit me. I had opportunities to buy a Gen 2 Raptor, but it didn't blow me away like my other 2 had. I purchased a different TRD Pro Tundra and was not looking to trade it in until I drove the Tremor. I love the Tremor!! I love the safety and tech features and the power, comfort, and overall very good gas milage has won me over. This has become my favorite truck that I've owned - which has been 7 since 2007. I am not worried about future value. I think people will begin to realize how great this truck is and what it can do, and do it so well. Good luck in your decision. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Hi there. Had a Gen 2 (2018) that I traded for a Tremor. ONLY because I needed a new truck asap as my Raptor was giving me too many issues and I need my truck for work. What sold me on the Tremor was having the same cab/interior as the Raptor. I wanted another Raptor but I couldn’t fathom dropping 103k (So Cal pricing/$20k markup) on a work truck.
The Tremor rides real nice. I don’t like the leather in the Tremor compared to my Gen2. It seems cheap…and it doesn’t have a nice tight finish to it. Again, it seems cheap. My gen2 had a carbon fiber interior. It was so nice. The Tremor interior is nice but has materials I’ve never seen. It’s odd to me. Maybe I’m too picky, idk. Maybe I just miss my Raptor. One thing is certain, you are correct to say the Tremor will not hold value. I got 59k for my Raptor. I probably could have pushed for more. The dealer listed it at 77k. I want to upgrade suspension on the Tremor but I am having a hard time finding a kit. BDS is what I want but their current 2021 won’t work with Tremor package.

Interesting. Both of my Porsches have real carbon fiber trim over full-grain Nappa leather. I personally think the leather in the Tremor is just as nice, and LOVE the camo/jean trim materials in the 402A Tremor (glossy CF has been overdone). I cant imagine Ford sources different leather for their Raptors vs Tremors, So I'd assume the leather is the same, assembly may vary. Either way, a good cleaning and conditioning with Chemical Guys products and the tremor leather is TIGHT and SUPPLE.

I had a 2019 Gen 2 Raptor 800a (base with cloth, etc…), it was great as a DD and family car although a bit tough to park at times in narrow spots. I sold it last year for a gladiator and love the gladiator but it’s just too small for my family (we have 3 boys). I didn’t even consider the Tremor at first and actually was ordering a raptor at MSRP of 74k. We had some financial changes and wife is going to stop working so I canceled the order (probably would have kept it if I had gone with the 800a optioned for about 68k)…..anyhow I then found that I could get a tremor fairly heavily discounted (Chapman has 4% under invoice). Combine that with selling my gladiator for 6k more than I paid and I am essentially upgrading from a Sport S gladiator to the 401a Tremor with some great options (360 camera, adaptive cruise, Torsen, etc…) for 10k

for the Raptor it would be 30k

I actually test drove both and the tremor is really nice, drives a bit smaller. It does feel a little less sporty suspension-wise (but just as quick). Interior is night and day from my old raptor and I love that it runs on 87 along with the narrower body of the truck.

I think If I was going with a 402a tremor it would be a tougher call as a base raptor would be a big consideration but with a nicely loaded 401a for 54k I am very happy and feel like it is a no brainer over the raptor for me.

I had a loaded 2017 Raptor for 4 years. Just traded for a tremor. Both great trucks. I like the seats and steering wheel on the Raptor more. Tremor drives a little better on the road. I can’t really tell a power difference. Can’t go wrong with either

I had a 2018 Raptor and sold it for $67k.
Buying a 2022 Tremor for $63.5k.
Just weekend transportation for me so don’t really need the off road capabilities of either, I just love the way they look and ride and prefer a truck.

I am assuming we could put a Raptor steering wheel on our Tremor. That is the only thing I miss about the Raptor other than that beautiful 6.2L exhaust.

Good stuff-- thank you. So........... I drove my buddy's Gen 2 Raptor yesterday and loved it. It's night and day different from the Tremor from the standpoint of handling/cornering/suspension, as it's meant to be. I think the Tremor was slightly more comfortable over road imperfections, but don't forget the Gen 3 raptor is getting coil overs and I'm willing to bet it will be the more comfortable DD with those upgrades c/w the Tremor.
The airport parking is definitely going to be an issue, but I've seen Raptors parked in the garage there, so that's reassuring. The raptor actually drove somewhat smaller than I was thinking it would -- and I chalk that up to the suspension set up.
I'm sure there are going to be times when i'm in Phoenix that I wish I was in a narrower truck, but most of my time is going to be spent up here in Show Low/Pine Top.
I think both trucks will be great cruisers for long road trips to so-cal.

Also, the Gen 3 driving characteristics are considerably improved over Gen 2 (feels quicker with less lag from what I've heard).
Fuel economy does matter to me, but let's be real: both trucks suck in that regard, lol. My friends are getting about 16-17mpg on the interstate on their raptors, assuming they're not in sport mode the whole time with a heavy foot.
And both the Raptor and Tremor can take 87 octane, although I'm not sure I would do that in either.

I just think that while I live here, and while also being able to get a Raptor at MSRP, I may regret not getting one. I can always sell it for a Tremor later on (although truthfully if I go to a more practical truck, it will likely be a GMC AT4X over a Tremor).
It's far easier to get a Tremor, and once the truck has been out a couple of years and things normalize, I fully expect healthy discounts to be had. Again, it's a great looking truck, and I'm probably in the minority of most that I prefer it's rugged yet understated looks over that of the Raptor.

Finally, to Keri4x's point: I agree that I wasn't impressed with the Tremor's leather. Actually, I was pretty disappointed as it felt a bit cheap to me. I think for a $13,500 upcharge for the 402a package, the leather should have been comparable to that in the KR or Platinum, and it's not close. I think the Raptor's leather is a bit nicer/softer, but not by a lot.

BTW: I really appreciate you Gen 1 and 2 former Raptor owners weighing in on this, as well as you, BA73.

@BA73: one more thing: Had I been able to keep my Shelby GT350 or get my future car (Cayman GT4), this would be an easier decision. I wouldn't be looking for a single ride that 'did everything' (i.e. the Raptor). I would have a 'proper' truck and have my sports car for fun. But unfortunately that isn't possible right now.

I've got a 911 T and 718 Spyder in the garage, so my truck is my truck. I totally get what you are saying. So, I only have two pieces of feedback. :)

1) If you can get a Gen 3 Raptor at MSRP, DO IT.
2) Get that GT4 as soon as you can, you will not regret it. 987 or 718, both are TERRIFIC. And let me know when you've got it and we'll meet up for a drive. (y)

EDIT: Life long Chevy guy. I had a deposit on the GMC AT4 before my Tremor search, finally drove one, and immediately got my deposit back. Underpowered, dated, boat. I run 91 octane in the Tremor. Based off your username assuming your a Doc from UCLA? I'm a Wildcat, wife is a Sun Devil, brother in law is a Husky, cousins are Utes, Trojans, and Beavers. Big PAC12 football family here.

Outstanding !!! Yes, I'm a Bruin and also a cancer doc (hematology/oncology). I realize more and more with each passing day how short life is, and while my DNA causes me to be hard wired to save/sacrifice/wait for tomorrow, I should know better in terms of not waiting forever.
My brother and sister are Trojans, so you can imagine how that gets during our rivalry game. I'm a huge college football and bball guy myself, and went to every UCLA home bball game my first 3 years: I was there for the amazing rivalry games between UCLA and U of A during the early and mid 90's-- it was such a different time and the quality of college ball then was light years better than the game of the last 10-12 years.

Thanks for the advice on the Raptor: yes I can get it at MSRP, which is why it's hard to justify getting the Tremor right now. I could definitely see the Tremor (or AT4/AT4X) being the right truck for me one day-- but not just yet-- at least if I want to have some fun in my truck.
I"ve had 2 porsche's (a 987 Cayman S) and a 997.2 Carrera GTS and loved them both for different reasons, but I'm partial to the mid engine platform.
But the car I really want one day is either the 718 Spyder or 718 GT4....... the plan was to order one before covid hit, but my life took a turn with some adversity and everything got put on hold. All good though: one day, fingers crossed.

Congrats on your amazing rides.......... would love to meet up and check them out one day. And the 911T is such an underrated car: most people have no idea the mods that can be done to make it comparable to a GT3 on the track.
