Auto Parking Brake! …with bonus auto shift to park 🥸

Not sure why I never thought of this but…

Since I bought the truck I wished Ford would just add an option in settings to always automatically engage the parking brake when put it in park.

And today I realized all I needed to do was open the door before I stop the engine and VOILA, I get my auto PB and as a bonus it shifts into park for me! Those sly engineers

Hmmmm, you shouldn’t have to open the door.
Mine automatically engages the parking brake after I put it in park after backing up into my driveway.
It’s been doing this since day one.

Your driveway on an incline? I can hit a button on the screen when in reverse but it only lasts for that drive, once you shut off the truck you need to use the button on the screen again.

As a matter of fact, it is on an incline.
Is that why the parking brake is automatically activated?

Yep, it detects that is on an incline and activates the PB. Not sure why they don’t just make it an option to come on always though.

I'm not a huge fan of the automatic shifting into park while moving... There are times when I need to open the door while moving (not fast, of course) but forgot about this feature once when the truck was new and it just slammed to a stop. Didn't like that very much.

But the auto parking brake is kinda nice!

Yep, it detects that is on an incline and activates the PB. Not sure why they don’t just make it an option to come on always though.

I’ll have to check to see if it also works after backing up into a level parking spot.
I hope it does work.

I just discovered tonight that if you have your seat belt buckled, it will engage the PB but won’t shift into park

According to the manual for my 2025, the ebrake may come on automatically if you park on an incline

Incline/ decline, both are slopes. So I'd expect that to happen.
