Used a green scotch bright pad to get the spots of surface rust off, then wiped clean with alcohol. The rattle can overspray would be hard to keep off of things…how did you prep the surface? I have por15 but debating on whether to rattle can
Looks great. You just got under the truck and did it, no jacks? I'm wondering if I can just slide down there and take care of it in a few hours when I get mine.Wanted to share a few pics of the axle cleaned up & coated with some POR15 (small can off Amazon) & I used foam sticks to apply.View attachment 2011
What worries me is the day I go to sell it and someone points it out. Ford is all "yeah its cosmetic no big deal" because we have to take it or leave it. Down the road a buyer doesn't have to, and personally I wouldn't want to buy a used truck with a rusted axle - surface rust or not. So then you have to explain to someone your truck is from the covid era where a bunch of random shit happened to the trucks, this being one of them. I'm sure that will only make the value go up... NOT.You guys are killing me. I legitimately didn’t care about axle rust. You cant see it. It doesnt hurt a thing. But damn, that does look good when its cleaned up. I guess i could do this too![]()
I just crawled under and applied, but there are some tight spots. It would be a lot easier if jacked up and resting on jack stands to allow axle drop.Looks great. Believe the 16oz can & that was plenty. I have enough remaining to coat my old four wheeler frame with. I got a package of foam applicator pads at Home Depot for 6 bucks & don’t forget gloves, it will stick to skin for a while lolWhat size can did you buy?
Thanks for leading the pack and posting info/pics! Ordered the POR15 rust preventer, scotch pads, and foam brushes on Amazon so when I get the truck in I can take care of it.I agree with cleaning it up now while new and minimal. When I look at anything used, I first look underneath for any rust or leaks & if more than a light surface spot, I walk away.
