So definitely don't trust adaptive cruise on a regular non highway road. I usually use it just to regulate the speed in traffic, not to steer. Just now it went from a full on stop to full acceleration into the back of a Corolla. Definitely will be a lot more weary of it moving forward.

I was directly behind it too so not an angle issue or anything. Wondering if after my level i need to have all the cameras and sensors realigned?

Probably it could be it quit sensing it after it got close.

In other news, destroyed the back of the Corolla, my truck has a couple of scratches. So the front end is pretty beefy, especially with the ceramic coat.

Damn dude. Hate that for you. Will be following this. Will you be reaching out to FoMoCo for an explanation? I'm afraid they might just tell you it's lift/level caused but as many others of us who have played with suspension and not had problems I'm not sure that is a good explanation.

I have the scheduled service coming up so I'm going to ask, and I'll pay them to recalibrate everything just in case. Will post the video later for you guys from my dash cam.

Please edit out any curse words. I am sensitive.

Glad you are okay, def interested in the dash cam footage and will make sure to not rely on the feature. Appreciate your input and warning of others to keep us safe.

I have had mine misread signs and want to go 90 mph instead of 70 mph.
Same, on the way back from Granger no less, scared the hell out of me.

Man, that shouldn't happen, EVER. The sensors are to stop you before that happens. You need to have it checked and if the truck was at fault, I'd petition FORD to pay for the damage. You rear-ending someone will make your insurance go up and if not, it's still a major strike against you.

Very scary and hope that everyone is ok!

I wonder if Ford's decision to drop the Argo project and issues with drivers aids like Blue Cruise or adaptive cruise control will lead them to disable these features entirely due to the potential risks?

Imagine the outrage if Ford disables a $2000 option haha.

Adaptive cruise has been around too long, it has a decent track record, it shouldn't change that, blue cruise will not go away either, they may look at not honoring it with mods done though.

The truly scary part is if the insurance companies decide not to cover you.

So you were stopped at a crossing or stoplight and it just took off on its own? I stopped using adaptive cruise on surface streets because there is no way it was going to stop in time when a red light stops cars in front to me.. I let it go to see if it would ever start braking and I had to slam on the brakes to stop the truck, so I doubt the adaptive cruise would have stopped in time to avoid a crash.

I even changed the distance setting to 4 bars and it still was not stopping in time to avoid a crash.

I dont have any lifts etc.. all stock.

I've done the same but it has stopped me, just more abruptly and closer than I would have liked, with the level I wonder if when it came out of it's downward travel from slowing if it may have lost the car momentarily and started accelerating again. That's plausible and may be a reason to get calibration done just to be on the safe side.

Some are saying on F-150 gen14 it should throw a code if it's out of adjustment. Otherwise, leave it be.

While this may be true (I have no idea if it is or not) several DTCs don’t throw visible codes to the driver/owner/operator meaning you have no idea if something is out of spec. You have to rely on the tech servicing your vehicle to alert you to the discrepancy. And we all know that dealers aren’t known for proactive maintenance/module upgrades. Not exactly something I want to hang my hat on.

Wow, sorry to hear that happened. The adaptive cruise definitely makes me nervous at times getting a little to close and braking harder than I like that I end up turning it off and or apply the brakes on my own. I’m curious to see how the calibration process works, I probably need to do as well.
