So...my mistake was that I did not add the utility bed package 🤕. Not realizing that the 402a does not come standard with the tailgate step or lights. Any thoughts of how I can add the lights with the switch to the bed?

I found this switch on amazon. I need to see if the wiring is behind the plate where the switch would go. Switch

The step in the tailgate is not going to happen. Really bummed about that. Oh well. Still an amazing truck!

There are lots of aftermarket solutions for bed lights. You can even buy an OEM Ford kit for this I think. You can also go to many local auto parts stores, farm and ranch places like Tractor Supply, and buy those LED light strips, tuck them under the bed rail, and do the same thing. By doing it via an aftermarket solution, you have more control over the switching, when you can turn them on, etc. So, all is not lost. Plenty of affordable options out there. Just search "F150 Bed Lights" or something similar.
Here's an OEM style one:
As for the tailgate step...yeah, harder to retrofit one of those. But I had one on my last F-150 and while somewhat useful the few times I actually benefitted from having it, I found that after years of using the truck bed...well...like a truck bed, that step got kinda tore up, the mechanism got tweaked, and it got to where I couldn't even use it cause it was tweaked or racked inside. For these reasons I did not opt for one and pay the money for one in my Tremor.

Good perspective! Thanks for the input. I do like the idea of doing under the rails lighting.

Not personally tested yet:

Found “lariat cargo lights” on 14gen forum and ordered everything…slapping it together this weekend. The harnesses and switch were cheapest from oemford when I looked. The original post’s PN for the switch apparently changed but below link looks right (fits, connects, etc but not 100% tested) Forscan changes also in post. Ended up going with some LEDs off americantrucks instead of OEM to save some cash and they seem brighter.

Edit: Tested and working

You also lose zone lighting Boxlink and power tailgate. The power tailgate is the one thing in that package I really wanted.

What is zone lighting Boxlink?

Oh. Mine came with zone lighting. Just none of the others. I bought the tie down cleats for $20 on Amazon

Quick question for those who have the OEM bed lights...Do you have to power on to turn on the bed lights, or can you just turn on the switch in the bed without the truck on?
