Anyone thinking about adding a catch can or is anyone using one?

I'm interested in some general feedback on what people are doing.

I have one now on my 2019 5.0 and it does catch a lot of crap.

Thinking about adding one to my Tremor here when it arrives later this month.

Thoughts?

Question is if it is needed in these trucks. How well to the PCVs' work? Do the catch cans capture anything? Adding a catch can will require more maintenance as well, emptying, freezing temps, etc.

I too am wondering.

I'm wondering what a catch can is, but don't mind me...

The catch can traps the blow by oil that flows through your PCV valve. Prevents gunking on the valves and such.

I read that it is an issue with the ecoboost due to the high compression.

I don't think it's as big of a deal on the newer ecoboosts as it was on the older ones. Newer ones use port injection in addition to direct injection to keep the valves clean. There's a lot of debate on the Gen14 forums about them.

I would like to see/read some data on this. Is it speculative marketing to drive sales in after market parts? Perhaps but inquiring minds want to know.

Americantrucks.com put on a 2017 Ecoboost (Raptor) and after a few thousand miles there was definitely some crap in the catch can. I'd be curious to see the results on a newer one. I want to say 2018 or 2019 they added port injection.

That's good to hear. Sounds like we really don't need one then. Port injection will definitely eliminate build up.

I'm still driving my 2013 FX4 3.5 EB without one. I don't plan on putting one on my next one either.
My 2013 F150 with the 3.5 EB doesn’t have one either. It’s showing 172k on the clock and runs excellent.

Although…. I bought this truck used. So there is a small part of my brain that wants to spend $250 on a catch can if it is helpful.
