How do you guys reconcile scratching up/dinging up these great trucks using them more or less for what they are intended for?

I went in the ditch (MN snow/ice) in my ‘24 and scratched up the body some and hashed up my rims pretty good getting out. Learned a lot, managed to get myself out with my winch, but all in all still pretty much sucks.

Basic question is do I make an insurance claim or not. Thinking is if/when I go off-roading some damage is likely from tree branches/kicking up mud etc. Orginal plan was to road queen if for 2-3 years and then once the shine is off go have some fun… maybe I just got the fun stage of Tremor ownership a little sooner than planned?

Either live with it or have said damage repaired.
It’s definitely not worth an insurance claim.

Insurance sucks enough as is...short of really hosing something super expensive I'd avoid that like the plague. Small scratches and dings from doing shenanigans though - every scar tells a story.

It's a truck. I expect to get some desert pin striping. If it's parking lot damage, that gets fixed.

Just gotta set your expectations.

I've got quite a bit of minor damage from offroad and hauling. It ain't no pavement princess, so I'm not too worried about it.

I scratched the hell out of my black tremor going through jeep trails all year. I was kinda bummed, but then bought two griots polishers and spend the day buffing and waxing. 95% of it is gone.

Me and the family have a lot of good memories already in this truck. It’s worth the cosmetic damage to me.

Strangely if I someone scratches it I get all worked up but if I’m the one trashing it I’m ok lol

Strangely, I think that the core of my butt hurtness…. :). If I make the choice to send it down a trail that’s on me, if it’s an accident or what not then it blows. That, coupled with the fact we all pay for insurance and have the mindset never to use it (I totally get that thinking and share it) just rounds out the butt hurtness.

Ok, I feel better now. Plus, after all the rock chips from driving in gravel I’ll just consider things a little more broken in sooner than planned. Since I can see the primer I don’t think these are buffing out.

I’m with you brother. I dread my first scratch’s and scuffs but it’s bound to happen. It’s primarily the reason I like Silver because it hides blemishes better.

Fair point. If I'm doing the dumb shit it's ok. If someone else is then its murder time. No one beats baby but me :ROFLMAO:

I just got a ceramic coating on the 2017 Camaro I bought off my mom when my dad passed a few years ago. It's supposed to help protect the paint from scratches, and I'm contemplating doing the same with the 24 Tremor I just got. If it can resist people trying to key your vehicle, I would imagine that minor things like kicked up rocks won't be much of an issue. Wouldn't protect from stuff that would do actual damage, of course, but it would at least keep the small stuff from causing problems.

Ceramic coating won’t protect from scratches

I always debated ceramic because when I do get pinstriping will it make it impossible buff those out (assuming they go into the ceramic)?

It’s for that reason I am sticking with wax… I can always buff that off easily and put on a fresh coat in a day.

I spent eons googling what to protect the paint with - ended up using the ceramic spray products and pretty happy with it. Only lasts 4-6 months but super easy (foolproof) application.

Yea, full ceramic coat I don’t think would protect scratches/rock chips. Need the plastic stuff and that’s a whole bother set of pros and cons.

Agreed ppf
Only thing is a full wrap is a lot of coin
But better than a new paint job

Ceramic basically fills in voids in the surface of the paint allowing it to be slick, now it does protect from minor scratches somewhat but will not protect from hard scratches.

So let’s say you get a hard scratch in ceramic. Is that engraved in the there until you take all the ceramic off? Is that even possible?

That’s what held me back from ceramic. At least with a wax I can fill in or reapply.

Ceramic works similar to wax. Before filling a chip or scratch you clean the area (they make cleaners to remove a ceramic coating) then paint, then reapply. It’s easier than the wax process in some ways.
