Diamondback HD Overland Rack

Ok, so I want a rack (chase, headache, sports rack, whatever) for my diamondback HD cover if possible. I have seen them fabricated, which I will attach pics of, and I have a good friend who owns a shop and can probably do this...but wanted to know if anyone knows of any that will fit? The site shows a few, but none apparently work for this cover/truck. Idk why other than the extra tie downs in the front. I'm assuming fabrication is the best choice but wanted to pick y'alls brains.

Can any rack be added if drilled into the cover theoretically? Or are there inhibiting factors? I want lights and stuff to be mounted but have no experience with doing so on a rack with a cover installed as that seems uncommon.

Can some racks be added and removed relatively easily? For instance, if I take the front part of the diamondback off and mount it to the bed?

I've had a Diamondback on my Tacoma and plan to order one for the Tremor when it ever gets built. I don't see any reason why you cannot attach that to the rack. Cover is aluminum so it's super easy to drill, I installed tracks and rails on mine for my RTT.

Ok, that's something else I was wondering. There is a Diamondback x Yakima rack system designed specifically for it and thought maybe that would work too, but I've never mounted stuff like that to a rack.

It would depend on how they mount probably. As long as you have the space idk why that wouldn't be possible. Make sure what you want clears the bed cover (or just retract it). Make sure both systems have room to mount properly...and I would think that's fine. Idk for sure but it sounds fine.

Go to diamondback, they list racks and accessories on their page. I ordered my HD with yakima rack pictured above to be delivered tomorrow (paid for them to install rails - 90$, worth it given the wonky ass installs I've seen on youtube). They are adjustable for height and have accessorory attacments for kayaks, skis etc. I guess canoes are special, but if you can strap it down that's better than not having the option. I went with this one for maxmimum flexibility. Maybe one day I'll want a canoe, or shift some 12ft lumber.
Inhibiting factors - your racks (and tracks) need to be able to deal with the bed covers opening - both yakima and rhino designed racks especially for the diamondback. There is also hardware knocking around underneath you don't want to be drilling into or inhibiting function.
The rack pictured in the OP is designed as a headache guard that just happans to be a front rack, there's a rear rack listed on the site that I think is adjustable that you can use with that. I doubt any of these will mount to the bed without some jiggery pokery.

They seem to be extremely good quality and I wouldn't have to actually drill the cover. Only downside is they won't let the cover open. But, if they're relatively easy to put on and remove.....might be worth?

Alright, well I may have found the best option out for any of us wanting To maintain use of our HD covers and habe an overland rack, imo anyway.

You can see here this rack is attached with the cleats existing holes. This rack also mounts in a way that maintains the covers ability to open. It is also pretty affordable when looking at similar sized ones. I have reached out to a few people who run them and they haven't had any problems yet, obviously idk how hard they run them though. They do come with a lifetime warranty too, huge plus.

The Uptop stuff is some of the best in the business. That's what I will be putting on my Retrax.

Wow, great to know! This very well may be what I pull the trigger on then. Have you used them before? Are they super heavy? Crazy hard to get on/off?

I have not used them personally. But a few buddy’s have their regular style bed racks and they are really good. None of them are supper beefy to keep them light as possible. They also have the coolest roof racks. After seeing this pic I kinda regret the Retrax. I never really get into the front of my truck from the side. Now I have the canister for the cover there. Planning on a ROAM box and LiPo battery up front anyways. Damn sweet setup if you ask me.

Yeah I'm digging the way it looks and seem to function. Do they like them or are they using other covers with them? I'm asking because I'm not sure what height to use. I get you can fit stuff under them, but I'm not sure what I would put there...

I just ordered these cross bars. I already installed the rails when I first got the truck. They mount into the stake pockets. They also have taller uprights available. I have the Sentry cover that looks like what's mounted here. I didn't get the headache rack because it won't allow cleaning the window and not sure how much over the cab it extends. Don't have much head room under the garage door.
