I'm replacing my stock air filter before I drop my Tremor off at the dealer tomorrow to get my oil changed. (Trying to see if they'll try and screw me and tell me my air filter is shot even though there's a brand new one in it. They screwed me about a decade ago on some other stuff, but have a new owner now, long story for a different time).

Anyways, I grabbed a motorcraft from Advanced Auto. I double checked the part number before I went in. When I pulled the old one out, I noticed it's white, where as the new one is yellow. The old one also is made in the US, new one in Mexico. Both are Motorcraft, and have the same part number. Anyone notice this before?

Interesting. Not so much the color of the filter media, but more so the lack of adhesive bead across the pleats.

Also interesting that most of the pictures that pop up when you look up the part number look much more similar to the factory one. White with the adhesive all the way across.

I believe it. Maybe I’ll pick one up and see what I get. Global manufacturing at its finest. It’s actually one of the reasons I stopped purchasing Levi’s, three pairs of the same style/number jeans… one made in Mexico, one China and one Egypt, only the ones made in Egypt were consistent with sizing. I don’t have time to look at that many tags to make sure my pants fit properly.

Is this your first filter change? I wonder if it's like the oil filter, The oil filter from the factory is different than any one you buy or get at the dealership.

Yes it is. Almost looks like the made in Mexico one is newer. Going back and looking at pictures of the filters online, they all show the white one. Supply chain issues?

I bought a used 2017 fusion about a month ago. I changed out the air filter and the Motorcraft filter i pulled from the car said made in Mexico and was yellow like yours pictured. It's probably materials used in the region/plant.

I had read somewhere that Motorcraft parts outside of a dealership or OEM channel were not the same, but I had not followed up on that. It would not surprise me if "Motorcraft" was licensed, considering you can buy a Motorcraft filter for your Toyota.
