Where I live it’s required to have a front license plate. My truck came with the frame that seems to snap on.

I have not put it on yet because my plates have not arrived.

Does this thing scratch though? It’s just gonna be sharp edge of plastic resting on the paint?

Took mine off the first day so I can't say for sure. My OEM 08 f150 definitely left marks. MO requires a front plate but I'm not going to put one on unless I keep getting hassled. I have a back the blue plate coming... Maybe that will help.

It really doesn't touch the bumper much. It snaps into the openings, way different then in the past.

I just peeked under mine after 18k because I ordered the new BuiltRight relocation mount and there are a few marks. Nothing that I don’t think my Detailer/paint correction guy can’t get out next detail though. AMB for perspective.

In Hawaii they require the front license plate but I have left it off. Didn't get hassled yet knock on wood. When I received my plates, noticed I didn't get the front license plate bracket when I picked up the Truck. Sales guy said it doesn't come with one and they did not want to drill into the bumper for this particular truck. Did my research and purchased myself from their parts department. There is no drilling involved  . I did notice that if I were to install it, it would probably mark the bumper. Yes it doesn't touch much but if anything hits up against it, I feel it would mark the bumper. If I decide I need to install it, I'll probably add some kind of soft cushion or something behind the bracket to at least try to save the bumper if anything were to hit up against it. Then again, since people usually just keep their front license plates on, whatever marks are made, it won't be noticed unless you remove that front license plate.

I was surprised how easy these install without the need for fasteners. I put one on my 18 Raptor and that one came with pop rivets. A front plate isn't required here, but I had a custom TREMOR plate in black with orange lettering made.
