I’ve never owned an F150 and came across several videos showing “hidden features” the most interesting involving the key FOB. Those of you w your tremor, does your truck have the key Fob socket in the cup holder? This allows you to start your truck if you FOB battery dies. Wondering if chip shortage affected this feature.

Also- does the FOB contain an actual key so you can lock back seats, glove box and console?

Any other features you care to share?

Thanks in advance,

I haven't seen a spot for the key as you say. The key fob does contain a key and I was given another backup key in the glovebox (lone key no fob).

Yeah, it's standard with the push to start vehicles, to have the "plug" for your key fob if the battery dies.

As for the key within the fob, normally there's a "button" where the key chain would go and you can push that and pull the "key" portion out/away from the fob. It unlocks the door/any other lockable area of the truck.

It cracks me up that the dealership spends hours teaching people how to pair their phone but never shows anyone the funnel, key socket, spare physical key, or how to drop the rear passenger seat back to get to the jack/lug wrench/funnel.

Right? I had to discover this info on some corner of the internet. Never once did I hear about this feature from Ford or other reviews/demos.

Only reason I know is in my 2012 optima, the key fob died and I had to read the damn manual lol that one was in the glove box.

My '18 explorer's battery died (literally 3 days out of warranty) but thought the key fob went out... The ol manual again and found it in the center console..

But it is strange they don't show the "basics". Maybe they tried and people didn't pay attention 🤷🏻‍♂️

That lone key is for the tire winch lock on your bumper

TIL, I feel dumb but I'm glad I know that now!
It's better than thinking it was some sort of USB type camera connection... not that I thought that, of course.

Most vehicles you just hold the key to the start button if the fob battery dies. Push the button and you're good to go.

Really and it's been mentioned before these are all things the salesman/dealership should go over. They are too busy pushing you out the door for another sale. I haggled with my dealership over everything included them throwing in the key replacement program. If you need to replace and key in a new fob it costs around 800 CAD.

With my 2017 I ordered a fob on Ebay for about $50 and programmed it myself. If you have both original fobs you can go through a procedure to program a new one. I ordered one on Ebay for my new truck and we shall see.

Now it's under warranty but it's good to know for the wife's! Appreciate the link.

Did the same thing after accidentally loosing one years ago in the lake. Now I always make a 3rd key and keep it hidden in an RF bag in the truck. Definitely worth the $50!

Doesn't the key that pulls out of the fob work for that also? Otherwise, I'll need to tape that to the spare jack :)

I'm a one trick pony. I have no idea

There is a "socket" in the cup holder for the key fob. You have to pull out the rubber insert, and you'll find it.
Good info to know. Had no idea that was there. This is my first vehicle with a push button start and hadn't even thought of it. So essentially if keyfob goes dead, you plug into here and truck can still start. Is that the case?
