What do you guys use these for? Like is it common to tune in on certain frequencies like it is on a boat in the ocean?
 
I don't own one yet but I'm thinking about jumping on the group buy. Here's some information I found when doing some research on what channels are used:

 
I had one in my Tacoma. Never used it.
 
I use hand helds, we use them for hunting, and offroading, cheaper and doesn't require a permanent mount, still nets about a 2 mile range and can be further in open territory.
