So…. A year later at 5200 miles, I have scheduled the truck in for an oil change, 5–tire rotation w/ balance. I scheduled for next month on an early Saturday so they can also knock out the two recalls — something about rattling rear window due to bass, and trailer towing glitch.
Anyway, I asked for the 5-tire rotation and the Dealership Service Manager thought I was nuts — “You would want a premium rim for that”, I affirmed the spare is on one. He went on to explain that it just isn’t worth it… I interjected and told him it would bother the hell out of me otherwise, so lets get that extra tire life with the 5-tire rotation and I’ll buy five new tires down the road instead of four.
I reminded him about the balance, and again he thought I was nuts — this is where it gets really strange. He told me unless there was an issue he wouldn’t worry about balancing, and said he only does his every 30,000 miles! I told him I missed my rotation and balance once or twice when I was a kid — trashed those tires.
Anybody else ever been told 30,000 miles as a recommended interval of tire balance?
