Has anyone installed the Flowmaster FlowFX cat back system on a 5.0L Tremor or know where I can find a sound clip? Flowmaster has a video for the 3.5 EB tremor but I haven't found any yet for the 5.0L. I also saw a video of the Flowmaster Outlaw cat back on the 5.0L but that's a little too loud for my taste. That video also shows how simple the install is. Both the Outlaw and FlowFX systems are bolt-ons for the Tremor. All you have to do is remove the factory muffler which is held in with three clamps, one in front of the muffler and one on each tailpipe above the rear axle. The factory resonator is not replaced. No welding required and they are 409 stainless.

Here's the Outlaw install video:

Here's the FlowFX PN 718170 with resonator delete. Still looking for PN 718172 which keeps the factory resonator.

Are you sure it fits the Tremor? And does it drone?
The first video of the 818171 Outlaw system was installed on a Tremor. The 718172 FlowFX is basically the same thing except with a larger muffler and without the black finish so I'm assuming it will also fit a Tremor and have less drone which is exactly what I'm looking for. The Flowmaster descriptions of both systems say "Fits Models with factory dual tailpipes" which I assume includes the Tremor.

I can't say for certain that it doesn't drone since I haven't purchased it yet much less installed it which is another reason why I originally asked if anyone else had the FlowFX installed on their truck. The 718172 does use the factory resonator so it probably also has the least amount of drone of any Flowmaster system.

The 718172 FlowFX is also the least expensive system that Flowmaster has for the Tremor and I'm sure they would rather sell you something else which might explain why there is not much info available. Hell, even in Flowmaster's video it appears as though the test driver wasn't pushing it as hard as the other systems including stock.

I know they are on the pricy side but I still think borla has the best options for both 3.5 and 5.0 exhaust

The AWE 0FG exhaust (both non res and res) seem awesome for the Tremors as well. I have my eyes on it.

If Borla offered the touring for the tremor I would agree. What is missing in Borla’s lineup, and really across the board for the Tremors, are exhausts that sound much better but aren’t dramatically louder than stock, especially during cold starts and warmups.

I went down the road of too loud and too much drone on my last 5.0L F-150. I went through a bunch of resonators and other stuff to try and fix all that. For this truck I'm looking for something that has a better tone than the stock system but is not objectionably loud. The simple bolt-on Flowmaster FlowFX muffler combined with the factory resonator seems like a good place to start and it can be had for less than 400 bucks plus I can do my own install in my heated garage. The factory resonator is a 3" straight through design so I see no good reason to mess with that. Flowmaster also claims power gains of up to 18 hp and 14 lb-ft of torque. Pretty sure this is what I'm gonna try and I'll post a video with sound when it's done.

In my opinion, the AWE 5.0 system sounds best with the resonator in place.

While I agree it does sound awesome, after looking at the photos of the AWE Tremor system, that single outlet muffler with a "T" splitting the tailpipe into two separate pipes looks kinda restrictive to me. The Flowmaster single inlet, dual outlet muffler that connects to the factory resonator and tailpipes not only looks more efficient but it also costs $1k less and that doesn't include installation costs.

I'm going with this, too. Thanks for the info!

Welcome. I just placed my order and sent you a PM.
Can't wait to hear you guys experience with this. The flow master video was worse than garbage for comparison!!

I'll try to get some before and after video with sound. I'll also be adding a Roush cold air intake and will get some sound before and after that, too.

FYI, for those interested in the FlowFX muffler PN 718172, Stage 3 Motorsports has it on sale for $359.95 w/free shipping. Not sure how much longer the sale lasts. They are showing that they have 12 in stock. Most other retailers have it listed for $399.95...

Agreed and I suspect that was intentional due to the price differences.

The dealer had already installed a Roush CAI on mine before I bought it. If nothing else it makes more under hood noise.

Interesting . . . I wouldn't expect a dealer to add that.
When I questioned it they said that because they were also a Roush dealer they sometimes do that to help sell their trucks. Not sure I buy that. More likely that someone else ordered the truck, had them add the CAI plus a few other dealer installed Ford accessories and then backed out of the deal at the last minute. Might also partially explain why they were willing to deliver it from 500 miles away at no charge. There were some other reasons for that too but it's a long story. End result was that I got a really well equipped truck for a great price and they gave me top dollar for my trade. I had to deal with some other nonsense that my local dealer took care of but it all worked out in the end.

Sounds like you got an awesome deal! Congrats
