2022 Ford F150 Tremor
Just ran across this recall on Youtube. It effects the 2021 and 2022 F150s.

I currently have a 2019 F150 with vibration issues and my drive shaft was replaced last month. I have a 2022 Tremor on order and I hope this issue is fixed before I get it.

That’s why I’m waiting to pick my truck up. Bought it last Thursday, and still haven’t even driven it home. Crazy thing is, my truck and the other Tremor on the lot don’t even have the insulator/shield that has the possibility of loosening to contact the drive shaft 🤦🏼‍♂️

I just crawled under my Tremor and I couldn’t find the insulator/shield either. Is that a bad thing?

I have no clue. I wondered that and asked why they wouldn’t even have them on them, and they were just as stumped. It’s only on super crew with the 145” wheelbase, and it’s not every truck that has the issue.

Went on the Ford website and entered my Vin#. Showing mine as Recalled. Dam. I will take a peak under. Pasted below what came up.

LOOSE/SAGGING UNDERBODY INSULATORSRecall Incomplete
Details

Issue Date
DEC 16, 2021
Description
UNDERBODY THERMAL-ACOUSTIC INSULATORS MAY LOOSEN AND CONTACT THE ALUMINUM DRIVESHAFT, RESULTING IN MARKING OR SCORING OF THE DRIVESHAFT. OVER TIME, THE ALUMINUM DRIVESHAFT MAY FRACTURE DUE TO HEAT BUILD-UP AND OR MATERIAL THICKNESS REDUCTION THAT CHANGES THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE ALUMINUM MATERIAL.
Safety Risk
A FRACTURED DRIVESHAFT MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER WHILE DRIVING, UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK IF THE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED, AND MAY RESULT IN SECONDARY DAMAGE TO SURROUNDING COMPONENTS. A FRACTURED DRIVESHAFT MAY ALSO CONTACT THE GROUND WHICH MAY CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. A FRACTURED DRIVESHAFT INCREASES THE RISK OF INJURY OR CRASH.
Remedy
OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY MAIL AND INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THEIR VEHICLE TO A FORD OR LINCOLN DEALER TO HAVE POSITIVE ATTACHMENT FEATURES ADDED TO THE UNDERBODY INSULATORS. DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE DRIVESHAFT FOR DAMAGE AND REPAIR AS REQUIRED. THERE WILL BE NO CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE. FORD IS EXCLUDING REIMBURSEMENT FOR COSTS BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY PROGRAM WOULD PROVIDE FOR A FREE REPAIR FOR THIS CONCERN. FORD WILL FORWARD A COPY OF THE NOTIFICATION LETTERS TO DEALERS TO THE AGENCY WHEN AVAILABLE.

Do you know what it looks like? Or have a pic so I can look too

Okay… when I first looked at the recall images I thought it was a metal shield that was touching the drive shaft…but it’s the aluminum foil looking covering that will sag in time. Here are a few pics. Please forgive the angles. I didn’t have much room to work.

Also, it’s worth pointing out that those of us with the larger gas tank have a little different layout than the original recall photos.

So with it being the foil, its less likely to be super serious? I had a 2021 f150 for 8 months before my tremor and didn’t have an issue so hopefully its not too crazy

It’s a thick fabric-like material. I can see how it would cause damage over time from rubbing. Even though it may be a slow moving process, I still would like to get ahead of it. Ford is basically just adding more bolts to tack it up.

Yeah for sure once its open to be fixed it will be just not a crazy fast process. Thanks for all your detailed info

Dealers were notified on December 20, and they can't release any delivered trucks until they fix it.

They removed them from the trucks. See attached.

@Dmallen2010 unfortunately, my tremor was built in August. So I do have them.

Got me to examine mine and here's what I found. Most of this material has a sticky backing. Near the front of the driveshaft, I had a piece already sagging, so I just pressed on material and it stuck back on pretty good.

Then I examined other places and noticed a couple of missing thingies that holds it in place. Not too worried because the whole thing feels like it's stuck on pretty good.

If you are concerned, I would just crawl underneath and make sure everything is tidy. I ended up pressing on everything while I was down there to make sure it stuck on well. If I get the recall notice I will mention the missing holders but I think most of our Tremors are in the clear. Here's the last angle showing clearance from driveshaft.

Also, another good reason to do your own oil changes so you can inspect these things at least once a year 😁

Well if it wasn't - 30 I'd crawl under there for an inspection too 😖
