Gas tank size...?

So had to do my first fill up on the truck, which per my window sticker is the extended 36 gallon tank. I had 9 miles of range left and was only able to fit 31.45 gallons.. I feel like I should have been able to pump more into that tank. I know its not the standard tank size, but has any one else noticed that there tank doesn't seem to be an actual 36 gallon tank, or my fuel gauge-level isn't correct at all ( I started the truck on a level surface)

I have had several Ford trucks with the 36 gallon tank, and I have never fit more than 33 gallons. Even though I've heard people say there is no 'reserve' fuel, I can't help but think there is. I haven't ever run the truck until it ran out of fuel, but I would guess you may be able to drive for quite a few miles after the computer registers 0 miles to empty.

Can you imagine if the truck actually stopped running at 0 miles to empty? People would be bashing Ford or any auto maker for that. "I have 50 miles to empty, I am going to hook up my camp trailer and drive 50 miles to the gas station". "Why didn't I make it ?!!!! POS truck !!!!!".

So true, per my understanding their is a 2.9 gallon reserve, I haven't seen it myself but have been told that by an individual who is one of their techs. He's a personal friend and everything else he has told me has been accurate.

My old '08 I forgot to fill up earlier that day and later left my house, looked down with 1 to empty. Truck literally sputtered and stalled luckily I could restart it and drive 2 blocks away to a gas station. At least an 08 zero means zero which I actually prefer.

I’ve gone quite a bit past “0 miles to empty “ on mine and was able to put just a hair over 34 gallons in… I wouldn’t recommend trying it though!

I had 16mi to empty and could only get 30G in my 22 (first fill up) I think/hope they do this just because of the issue with parking on a hill (facing down) when low on fuel where truck will not start. I'm guessing if your running level you could go an extra 50-70mi past zero. I may try it some time and carry some fuel with but probably not worth it. I couldn't believe it either (it was last week lol)

Autovlog has done this already, he did the test and posted it on YouTube.

Hello. I landed here because I just purchased my first truck. After some research I decided on a v8 tremor 401A. I didn’t want to wait for a build and I found a canceled order at local dealer. My concern is, all my mock builds show the 401a having the 36 gallon. But I noticed on the way home the miles till empty said 414. 17 mpg x 26 gallons is 442. Did I just buy a 26 gallon tremor? 🥴

All Tremors have the 36 gallon tank, your MPG’s should improve as the engine breaks in. Additionally most of us are seeing the miles to empty is showing a little short, we believe it’s a safety buffer built in. Most can’t fit ~30 gallons in when it reaches 0 miles to empty. A few of us brave owners have pushed deep past the 0 miles and gotten more in. I believe I got 34ish gallons once but I was sweating making it the station! Additionally there was an owner who parked nose down on an incline with less than a quarter tank (can’t remember exactly how much, hopefully he’ll chime in) and the fuel pickup was unable to get any fuel. Congratulations on the new Truck!!

With my 22, I actually had to specify the option and pay for a 36gal tank when I ordered ($445, under Optional Equipment on sticker). I am one of the few people on here that runs the mythical 400A though, so maybe standard on mid's and high's?

That's so odd on the 21's they all came with 36 gallon tanks as far as I know, it was the only option.

Well hell! Didn’t realize you could get it with the small tank!

If you go to configure one today and don't check any boxes, it is already on there as "included" so at least for 2023 they appear to be all 36gal. I picked up my 23 401A EcoBoost on 1/31/2023 and it has it, nice to have the range but painful to fill up from anything less than 1/4 tank lol. Especially coming from a Tacoma with a 21gal tank. Luckily, MPGs are significantly improved with EcoBoost.

Thank you

36 gallon was included with my 22 402A, I thought they all had the 36.

I ran mine down to 40 miles to empty this week and put in 29.746 gallons.

its the same with the bigger trucks as well. My 2017 F350 has a 5gal reserve. I usually go 20-30 miles past 0 miles. I'm thinking its the same with my 23 tremor.

Dealer filled tank with 85 when I took delivery,, puft..
