I'm thinking I'd like to replace the plastic OEM skid plate on the gas tank

Anyone buy the RCI gas tank skid plate? Curious if your happy with it how it looks/feel from a protection standpoint?

Any other good options out there?

RCI skids are on my list once I get my truck. I was hoping the factory skid was not plastic (and therefore maybe not needing replaced)...but am inferring from your post I am wrong. 😔

I didn't know this had a plastic skid plate. Is it mounted with the studded tank straps required for the RCI plate? I'd go out and check but my tremor is in a rail yard somewhere.

Bash plate, engine skid, and transfer case are steel. The transmission skid is like cardboard and the gas tank skid is plastic.
I believe if you have the oem skid you don't need the straps from RCI.

You can't go wrong with RCI. The only two skids I won't use from the are the chin (sticking with factory) and the Trans which is only because I like the one that covers the cats

I don’t know why RCI doesn’t update their skid plates to cover the cats. I’d buy them from RCI. Instead I’ll probably buy the Talon plate because it’s designed to prevent Cat theft.

@Yeti, is this for off-road protection for the cats or for theft prevention? (Wish I had the truck so I could just crawl under and assess myself...but alas...I wait.)

both. With things being what they are, belly protection includes rocks, trees and theives.

Yeah

I guess I’ll try it out. I did get Talon’s trans skid. Those are the only 2 (tans and fuel) I was looking to replace for now.

I have the RCI skids on my '17, and plan to swap a few on the Tremor over, with the fuel skid being the first. From what I understand the RCi skid should bolt right up to the OEM straps that are holding the factory skid. On my '17 I had to purchase OEM straps with the studs to install the fuel tank skid since my truck didnt have the FX4 package, but that swap was fairly easy. The RCI skids are nice.

I did buy the RCI skid and installed it this weekend. Overall I'm happy with it. It is very easy to install, took maybe 15 minutes. Certainly a big upgrade over the plastic one.
The section in front of the first bolt still just hangs there, which I guess I don't love. They do include some foam on the skid plate (between the skid and tank) so at least if it bounces around it won't make noise.

Did you have to get the straps for the RCI gas tank skid, or just the skid? Looking to order that and the talon trans kit this week. I think I just need the skids, no straps?

Just the skid no straps needed. You reuse the straps that came with the oem skid.
Nice, thanks. Ordered both today. Will install and post pics from under the lift. I got the RCI in raw aluminum since the talon is raw also and to save $75 bucks. Got the talon with the oil drain cover, and ordered the oil drained valve for the 3.5L ecoboost to change while I'm down there also.
