GMC AT4X vs Tremor? Trade In?!

So I received an email from GMC today that the Sierra AT4X that I reserved Oct 2021 is going into production and I should take delivery in 8-12 weeks

I bought my loaded Tremor a couple months ago and I’m loving it, but there are def some pros/cons to consider between the two trucks and wanted to get the Tremor forums thoughts on keeping it vs trading in?

AT4X: Pros vs Tremor
- 6.2L V8 14/18 MPG
- better suspension DSSV Multimatic shocks
- Front and Rear Lockers
- heads up display and 13.4” screen
- full grain leather seats with 16 way massage
- 420 HP vs 400 HP

AT4X: Cons vs Tremor
- 32” Tires
- single sunroof vs dual pane
- 460 lbs torque vs 500 lbs
- voice over tech better in Ford than my 2020 AT4
- 9000 lb vs 10,900 towing, though I don’t tow anything nearly that heavy. GMC lower due to suspension more for off-road.

I’m sure there are others I’m forgetting, but these are a few main ones to consider. As for overall exterior and interior looks, my personal opinion leans towards the AT4X as I have owned more GM in the past, though I do think my Tremor is pretty bad ass looking. Especially on 35s!

Love to hear yalls thoughts as I will need to decide when it gets here. Thanks!

In my experience with GM products, the interior tends to wear down a lot quicker than others. For example, the vinyl fold down arm rests tend to crack very quickly. At the end of the day, I guess it comes down to personal preference.

This is my very biased opinion, everything I know about working on vehicles, I learned because I owned a GM and did nothing but work on the thing. It was my first vehicle but my last GM, I guess I should thank them for the wonderful mechanic skill I have now but I will never own another.

Buy it and sell both for a profit. Get a TRX or Raptor if not happy with the Tremor.

I was a GM fan for the longest time, and still have one...the caveat is I'm always fixing them. The 2020 I have now is going to be traded towards a bronco. I'm done with GM for good. They're always breaking or doing something annoying that costs money. For the price they are just not worth it in my opinion. (Just like dodge and their historical trans issues, but thats a whole other forum).

Personally I don't think it's a superior truck to the tremor by any means. I believe Ford makes the best half ton right now, between the tech, the Ecoboost, and the trans. The GM trans is a tad smoother, but they come from very similar places. The 6.2 is cool, but in 2022, the fact that they still go bigger to make more power kind of shows you how dated they are... The tremor makes arguably more power with a 3.5 turbo 6.

The interior just got remodeled, so I'm sure it'll have more issues while the Ford one has a couple years under it already.

I almost waited for the new GMC or Silverado with a 6.2, but ultimately I think Ford is just further ahead. I also think Ford just knocked the aesthetic and all around balance out of the park. The functionality of the tremor is far more than the GM you are looking at also imo, that's basically an fx4 lariat. Not to mention granger is selling a fully loaded tremor for 65k and I can't imagine you're getting that GM for 65k.

If I was in the market for a luxury truck, that's the only time id skip the Ford because the Denali is truly the best in class luxury truck.

For me it would be dependent on whether or not it was coming fully chipped or with IOUs.

I think we're going to take a hit on resale value as more BAP F-150s hit the market

I actually think the opposite, obviously Ford realized that everyone liked the look, that's why they are making the rattler and the BAP available. I believe it will increase the value because of the extra goodies.

Honestly both the AT4x and Tremor are awesome trucks. If you bought through granger or xplan i think the Tremor is the better value by far (it's at least $10k less than the AT4x).

Like you i looked at both trucks as these are the two best looking trucks on the market imop. What color is the AT4x? Personally i love their red color.

edit: also i feel like the chip shortage/years of past and future supply chain issues/inflation means Tremors will hold their value very well for the next 5 years.

Before getting the Tremor I did look at the GM lines. I did like the exterior of the AT4 but didn't care for the interior. I know they have recently upgraded and it looks improved. I just feel like the Ford is just a better made product and ahead of the game compared to GM. Especially for the money. I also did look into the ZR2 and AT4X. I know some guys do prefer that V-8 over a V-6 turbo but if that V-6 turbo is better in every way except maybe exhaust note, then why wouldn't you want the V-6 turbo? Just my opinion. The one thing that really turned me off was their lifter issues. I believe they have issues with their lifters failing in the 5.3 and 6.2 V-8s. There may be a class action going on but it seemed a lot of people were having the lifters fail even at low mileage newer vehicles. May want to look into that and hopefully they resolved it now. I am a little Ford biased. Tremor and AT4X are both great trucks. Just comes down to what you prefer.

I nearly ordered a Denali but read about 6.2 lifter issues and at the time the interior was outdated.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the feedback and for pointing our some additional things to consider that the Tremor has to offer.

Answering a few questions:
- ordered AT4X is also black int/ext which is like my current ride and look I prefer

- with chip issues, I heard some AT4X are being built w/o front and rear park assist, but all other options seem to be available and why these were delayed to make sure offered.

- price: Tremor purchased for MSRP loaded for $72k and I have about $6k into it after lift, tires/wheels, ReTrax bed cover, spray liner, etc
So about $78k all in

The AT4X is $77k after adding off road steps, so pretty comparable on price but would be $80k+ once I add some accessories

All in all I think I’m def leaning to keep the Tremor and will enjoy it for a couple years. The GMC gets here in June I’ll test drive it for fun, but likely stay with the Tremor which has been great.

Thanks again everyone!

Kinda to add to what @Cranbery said, the power is going to feel better out of the Ford because though the HP is slightly less, it comes on earlier in the powerband. I promise the Tremor will be more fun to drive. The only way I would consider the AT4X is if you had the 3.0, and that's just because I like diesels and that engine specifically. (though it too is not going to be as "fun" to drive)

Agree, when I was looking at it I wanted the diesel almost more than the 6.2. I think that's Ford only weak spot is not offering a diesel comparative like that.

Bannerman & Cranbery:

100% agree on the diesel as my previous truck was a 2020 AT4 with the 3.0 and it was a killer engine and even on larger tires avg 18-19 MPG (though diesel is $5/gallon now)

Unfortunately the AT4X only power train offered is the 6.2 V8

Well guess this is my last Tremor post, as my ordered AT4X arrived and traded in the Ford.

I honestly loved the Tremor and it was a great truck for about 6 months, but just really love the interior and exterior styling of this new GMC trim.

Wish everyone well and happy wheeling! 😀

What do the new interiors look like? That’s always been the downfall of GMC/Chevy in recent history imo.

I respect your opinions but think a lot has to be proven once reviewed in real world.

My feedback regarding the Pro’s over the Tremor.

AT4X: Pros vs Tremor
- 6.2L V8 14/18 MPG….. real world mpg yet to be determined
- better suspension DSSV Multimatic shocks…… I don’t know enough so will agree.
- Front and Rear Lockers……. Tremor has them as well as an option, if it’s standard ok slight pro if you wanted it, con if you paying for feature you don’t want.
- heads up display and 13.4” screen- HUD agree, on the merit of larger screen itself I don’t agree, it has to look in place and function just as well, I think it’s still to be determined in real world.
- full grain leather seats with 16 way massage………pro for sure 👍
- 420 HP vs 400 HP…… slight hp advantage, vs larger torque disadvantage, I’d personally prefer Tremor ratings.

It all comes down to personal preference, get what you like better.

Exactly, everyone has the right to be wrong if they choose!

Jk lol. As long as you like it and it keeps you and/or your family safe then it's the better vehicle for you. We can all disagree, but we aren't you and each use case/opinion differs. It was a pleasure having you here while we did. God speed sir.

Torsen is not a true locker, I do wish we had a front locker option. Agree on all other points. Engine alone makes the Tremor the obvious choice for me. Better torque and power curve over all, plus a LOT more potential if you want to tune. Unless you put a blower on the 6.2 but that’s a whole different discussion
