Hey All,
Looking to upgrade my 400a headlights to LED bulbs. I found the video below. Is it really just as simple as changing out the bulbs as shown ?

Also full kits here....

I’m no stranger to bending the rules but LED lights in a halogen headlight just don’t focus properly and end up blinding everyone on the road. Maybe just get some high end halogen bulbs? My eyes will thank you and may even keep me from running blindly into you head on in the rain.

This is the info I was looking for. I figured there was more to it then just changing bulbs. Thanks

I tried LEDs in my '08 projectors and switched them back because the light wasn't as good. I ended up doing an HID kit but I had some issues of one not coming on no matter how nice of a kit I bought. High end halogens with a nice bright white would be the easiest upgrade.

I will look into halogen upgrade.
If anyone has any recommended bulb upgrades, shoot me a link.

Thanks

I just ordered these for the kids car, should be delivered in a few days. I’ll let ya know it they’re worth the $$!

Please do, thanks

What about just upgrading to led bulbs in the fog lights ? Won’t blind anyone and should improve vision at night with the brighter output?

That would probably help. There are also the DOT compliant LED pods from Diode Dynamics, Baja Design, and Rigid. They have driving and fog patterns. I’m in the same boat with the kids car, Halogen’s and we live in rural New England with no streetlights, hilly windy roads and frequent fog, snow, and rain. I ordered the attached bulbs a a set of Diode Dynamics fog lights in amber. Hopefully that’ll help. My Friends daughter just got into an accident New Year’s Eve out driving her lights on foggy wet roads. Really made me say “Frack It” and order the stuff for his car.

I had the first production run of those in my ‘16 F-150 and they looked rad! Definitely spendy but they do stand behind them. I had an issue with flickering and they sent a new headlight out. Loved the blacked out housing and amber DRL. Great light output and crisp cutoff line as well. I don’t think they were brighter than the OEM LED’s but they definitely were not dimmer and looked amazing.

I haven’t gotten around to installing the new bulbs in the kids car yet due to weather, but I was lurking around DiodeDynamics site and saw these LED bulbs that might interest you. The do state they are not DOT compliant but also say that they are focused properly. Maybe shoot them a message for clarification? I’ll post an update on the sylvanias when I finally get them installed.

I have been thinking of going the Alpharex pro route. You can get them for $700 and then upgrade to the led bulbs…. I love the look of the DLR.
Anyone have the pros ? Reviews seem to be good.

I have the Luxx, but would spring for the novas if I had a do over!

AlphaRex Luxx is what I’m running right now. That was the only option when I upgraded a year ago. There are so many good options now.

Please do, thanks
Sorry about the Delay! Come to find out to replace the bulbs on a 2012 Outback you need to REMOVE THE FRONT WHEELS AND LINER!!! Who in the frack though that was a good idea??? Anyway, weather was ok enough and the Kid and I got them swapped out. They are definitely not LED bright white, but they are substantially brighter and whiter than what ever was in them before. They are in a 13 year old projector housing, but the lenses look clear. All in all I’m happy with the bulbs and have no regrets. Don’t have any comparison pics because I forgot to take some beforehand, sorry! Hope that helps a little!
