Not too long ago I mentioned that the vinyl on my leather seat was already starting to crack at the seams. Well, today was the day to have it replaced. When the dealership called to let me know the truck was ready to pick up, they said they found something else while the seat was taken apart.

Apparently when Ford assembled my seats at the factory, somehow the heating element was folded over and the heat coils were touching each other. This is very dangerous, and I would have had no way of knowing unless they stopped working, or God forbid, my seat caught on fire. Keep in mind that I live in Southeast Texas. I don't have to run the heated seats too often. And my truck is only 6 months old. The service advisor told me the seat pad that the heating element is attached to had brown marks from the over-heating. She said she would take pictures when they replace the heating element, but that won't be for a while. The part is on backorder.

So I guess I'm glad that my leather seats needed to be replaced - things could have gotten a lot worse!

I have noticed- these seats get HOT. A lot hotter than other vehicles I've owned... That would have sucked. Glad it worked out for you.

Yeah, talk about! I’m curious if anyone else has had this problem? The dealership told me they’ve seen it once before on another truck.
