I’ve got a new one for ya. Hopefully no one else has experienced this yet.

I had a hood latch malfunction while going 75mph down the interstate. The hood opened on its own. It thankfully caught the “safety” manual latch and did not come all the way open. I can confirm the hood was shut and no ajar warning was present on the dash before it opened. I got a warning on the dash saying to slow down and pull over to close the hood. No apparent damage seemed to occur, but my butt was sure puckered after that.

Have since looked at the mechanism and everything seems to be engaging correctly and the hood does not move if you try to pull up on it with it closed. Any tips or warnings are welcome. I don’t want to total my truck into oblivion waiting on parts if I can help it.

Is this like the tailgate falling open that Ford keeps sending me letters about...

Wife was having some issues with her 2021 escape hood vibrating when at highway speed. Took it to the dealer few times and they finally figured out latch mechanism was defective. Worked fine ever since. Might have same issue in your tremor.

I think the dealer is my next step. I hope they do actually find something. It will at least give me confidence that it can be fixed and it won’t happen again.

Hoods flying open are no joke. Had 2 different buddies who forgot to do the side latches on their Jeeps and while driving down the road the hood flew open (CJ and YJ). Both of them ended up needing new hoods, windshields and windshield frames. Both said it was so loud fast and scary that they nearly wrecked when it happened.
