I just picked up a 13” kayak and paddle boards 11” and 15” and have just bed loaded them with tonneau cover fully on and tailgate down with bungee cords.

Any of you here have a better loading solution?

What tonneau do you have, if you can mount a rack to your bed you could always leave the bed usable and load the rack with them.

I have seen people lay them on the top, with a pad of course and have the ends against the tailgate. Without spending money your way will work just fine, just hang a flag off the longest one.

Another option, years ago I built a wooden rack to sit in the bed of one of my trucks and could fit 4 MTN bikes in it and lock them so they were secured, you could do the same for those with the tonneau cover open and have them come up over the top of the cab and have them capable of being locked so you didn't have to worry about theft. It would cost less and you could remove it when not hauling them.

I have a roll up Lund cover ( see pic ). The Lund will work with the rail systems that fit on the plastic bed borders.
Wasn’t sure what benefits I would get unless I went with a cab high rack since lower racks offer the same length constraints where the end of kayak would be sticking out past the tailgate.

Do a high against the cab to a lower near the back of the bed, that helps keep everything tucked in nice and tight and gives you the ability to use the bed. Unless you have clearance issues, it's no fun explaining to a street how you managed to take out their power lines in 90 degree heat on a weekend and now they have no AC, yes I've had to do it and no I will not elaborate as to how, just will say I tried to tell my platoon Sgt that it wouldn't fit.

This is what I use with a 14’ kayak. It provides a little better stability.

I've packed the 13" kayak a few times now and its really not that bad. I leave the bungees attached to my builtrite panels on one end then just attached the other end to the kayak mounting points and I'm all hooked up in a few minutes and its stable. Besides I'm only driving 4 miles down country roads to launch so I'm not gonna invest in something I really don't want when its probably going to take me more time and effort to load and unload than what I'm doing meow.

I didn't know how far you were transporting, I totally agree with not spending if your only traveling a relatively short distance.

Great option, this will allow up top tent on an overlander rack and still bring the yak along.

These pics are terrible (I don't know how I don't have better pics), but I run a Leitner Designs rack. I don't think they'll mount with your existing tonneau, but they do have models that are compatible.
