Is this normal for a brand new truck?

No, absolutely not. There is another poor soul on the forum who suffered the same fate here.

It sounds like the dealer took care of it, ford replaced all the driveline components including the rear axle, driveshaft, etc.

Good reminder to everyone reading to check your undercarriage and catch rust early on.

A lot of these vehicles were put on a lot / field somewhere after production before they were allocated and delivered. Since the F150s final assembly location is in michigan, I’d wager sometime between delivery and production it got a good coat of road salt that was never cleaned off.

Dealers really need to pushback on this kind of shit. If a truck’s rear-end is brown and pitted from rust they need to send it back. Ford needs to find a better way to store and transport these vehicles so this doesn’t happen.

My '24 had some under it when I bought it (not that much) and it sat in FL.. I had them clean and do an under carrige coat the next day. Looks great now

While definitely an eyesore, believe it or not these days, excessive surface rust on the underside of new vehicles isn’t uncommon.

They didn’t. Just said that all of their vehicles look like that and that Ford wouldn’t warranty it. I haven’t pushed it further

Take it back to the dealer have them do something about it !! Or pressure wash it, clean it up with the water, brush and spray it with satin black !!
