I've been considering a bed slide option, but was too used to putting dirt bikes and stuff in my bed before. With this setup- could you still load a bike (and drive the the tailgate down)?

Sure you could. Think of the actually sliding part as a dresser drawer, you pull it out the same way.
You would only have the frame on the floor which doesn't take up too much space and is about an inch off the bed floor. Then when you're done slide the bedslide back in. I suppose you could load the dirt bikes onto the bedslide as the weight wouldn't be a problem but I wouldn't want to load dirt bikes onto the bed slide, I would use 2 other people and spend the 10 seconds to remove. Also your center of gravity is about 3 inches lower with bed slide removed.
I will say ideally its really easy removing or sliding back in with 3 people. You can do with 2 but they are going to have to be taller and strong. It only takes 10 seconds with 3 people to remove or reinstall.
