I can't believe I'm even thinking about one of these old man add-ons. But I recently put in the decked drawer system and now I got no place to put a cooler and the family luggage for a road trip!

I want it to look great and be simple. I don't need a bunch of fancy stuff- a painted to match quality shell that can keep my stuff secure.

I have a Leer fiberglass paint matched top, and I have the Decked system. I love the top and the Decked system, but there are drawbacks to both. With Decked you lose some bed space, but you make it up with a top. The upside to the top is your cargo is protected from the elements, and the decked system stays completely dry. Also, our beds are so short, which is why I went with the Decked drawers instead of a box. I live in North Idaho, and the winters are pretty snowy. With the top I can still use my bed in the winter. Prior to the top, I had to shovel out my bed to use it. I was going to install a flip cover or a roll and lock cover, but you lose height in the bed with it closed. If the weather sucks and you are hauling something taller than the bed rail, it’s getting wet or snowy. As I said, there are pros and cons for both, but this is what works for me. Hope that helps.

RSI Smart Cap.... I love my old man cap lol. Super functional for hauling camping gear and stuff for the family.

One of the best features is how wide the side doors open so that you can still access stuff at the front of the bed decently easy
Got pics? It looks it costs $5000?

This looks so good in Azure Grey, what was the price with the paint match?

I paid a little over $3K installed. Can’t remember the exact price. I was going to go with the RSI Smartcap, but they were just to expensive.

Got pics? It looks it costs $5000? I would spend an extra money for one of those before buying a fiber last one

I'm extremely happy with my RSI Smartcap. Mine with the table, installed was about $5,200.

I just got one, I had the roll back cover. My wife was complaining that they are old man caps, but I got an all metal one and she said it’s “not bad” so I take that as a win. Mine is Roveroll a company out of CA.

Leer 100XL. I've had a cap on my last four trucks, once you have one there's no going back. Dry, secure storage for everything (including the dogs). If it won't fit under the cap, I use the trailer.

Damn, that does look good. Now I'm really thinking about getting one.

Years ago I had an ARE cap on a Tacoma (20 yrs ago) and it leaked everywhere when it rained. I really want to get one for my Tremor, but I’ve been reading lots of horror stories about poor quality/leaking with current toppers. Can any of you tell me how water tight your topper is? Thanks in advance.

I spent some time at the truck accessory dealer. An ARE with just basic options (opening front window, LED lights, powered lock) comes out to $4800 before taxes. Yikes! They also had an RSI smart cap and Alu-Cab metal caps that looks pretty tough and can handle a roof top tent, but to me they're ugly and don't match the F150 at all. I may just pass at this point and pull my decked drawer system out when it's family vacation time.

Shop around. My Leer 100XL with tip out/sliding front window, side window screens, led light and carpet liner delete was $3,700 installed, including tax.

They are not water tight, because water still gets in at the bed drains and through the tailgate. A little water can also get in via the rear window on the topper, but it’s minimal. I have a bed liner and I have a husky bed mat, which keeps the water out of the bed. I have a top of the line Leer top and the decked system, and everything is dry for the most part. Basically a few water drops on the decked system after a car wash or heavy rain. The decked system is completely dry inside the drawers and ammo cans. The tops are built well and I’ve never had one leak from the top itself.

I''ve had caps on my last 4 trucks, last 2 have been Leer 100XL's. Minimal water get's in at the tailgate and my current one has some through the front slider. Minimal water overall.

Thanks for the replies regarding water intrusion with the bed caps. It sounds good overall, at least for the Leer model.

Haven't seen a cap i like yet. Something the looks like it belongs there

Question on the Smartcaps if anyone happens to know... I am looking for one for my 2024 Tremor. I know they changed style on the side doors at some point, now they are all glass with vertical latches, where previously they had horizontal latches in a band at the bottom of the door. Does anyone know if they changed anything substantial at the time, or just a cosmetic change to the door? Just wondering if one model is preferable to the other. Thanks!

I believe that RSI just changed the locks to make them more water/ice resistant.
