License Plate Bulb Replacement

Anyone that has a 22 has probably noticed that the license plate lights are no longer LED and are very dim. I was planning on ignoring this until I saw the attached video. Seems the real issue is the bulbs Ford is using now get VERY hot and as you will see, they have burned the sockets and partially melted one on a few months old truck. I wonder if the sockets were designed to handle LED's but not halogen as Ford is now using and they won't stand up?

Wow that's pretty shady that they didn't test something like that. Wonder if we can get a credit or get them to cover the cost of replacement bulbs because it's causing damage to the sockets.

I have a 2021 and changed mine to the Diode Dynamics Cool white HP5 LEDs not realizing mine were already LED from factory . They are brighter than factory. I attached photos. Photo of the 2021 stock LED. The Diode Dynamic package does contain the stock LED and the last pic is what the LED look like that I installed. I believe I got access to mine going under the rear bumper. I think it might be easier. Sockets are right there.

I had to replace my bumper because it was ran into which resulted in a damages light housing. I bought these off AmericanTrucks and they are pretty bright. Lights I did wrap the connectors with waterproof tape because it connects differently than the OEM lights.

I forgot to mention that the HP5 bulb that I am running is bright and does add a glare in the reverse camera at night. @ Erlo22 HP3 option may be the better option if you don't want that glare.

One of the first mods I did was replace the lights with ones from F150LEDs. Easy and cleans everything up nicely.
