Hey Gang,

I'm getting ready to order my Tremor. I'm stuck on the Moon Roof option. I have my own list of pros and cons, but I'm wondering what all of you think.

If you got one, Why?

If you didn't, Why not?

Thanks.

I didn't because its super hot during the summer where I live. Moon roof supposedly lets in warmth. I also plan to keep it for a long time so I had some concerns about longevity and maintenance involved.

Had one on my 2015. It never leaked in 200k miles. It also wouldn’t open without spending 30 minutes screwing with the button. I added it to my Tremor in hopes that they made improvements in the last 6 years. So far I hear no air leaks, see no water leaks, and it opens the first time I hit the button. Maybe they are just a crap shoot in general. So far so good though.

Ordered mine without the moon roof.
I've had moon roofs on many cars and realized I never really use it much.
On my last escape it started leaking and giving me problems and I vowed not to have to deal with that crap again.

4K Miles and have the moon roof with no issues....Live in Florida so its a nice to have....No complaints so far...have had in previous trucks/cars with no issues....

Simply put, I hate the moonroof in my 2018 Raptor. I would special order a truck to avoid one even if a truck was available on the lot with everything else I wanted. According to the service folks at the dealership, one of the most notorious issues in F150s.

Cons:
- Constantly battling rattles and have to get repaired even though I don't use it (on my 3rd repair)
- Seals will stick together without constant maintenance. They need to be lubed every few months. Causes breakages and sometimes can't be closed once you get it open
- Random shattering events (4-wheeling and highway)
- Added weight on a truck with already low usable capacity
- Added cost
- Heat transfer from the glass to your head sucks, even with the shade closed
- Drains clogging that cause leaks (do some searching in the Gen 2 Raptor group on Facebook)
- EDIT: Shade flapping in wind from windows down.

Pros:
- I've got nothing (I should be noted that I also hate the sun beating down on me. I'm the guy under an umbrella by the pool...haha)

I could care less about the moonroof, BUT, my wife really likes them, and kids tend to like them. So after some research, it seems that most of the problems experienced by others could have been prevented with some basic maintenance. So I ordered with the moonroof, but I also plan to clean the seals quarterly and lubricate with Krytox grease.

Oh no... not this again. 🤣

Never had a problem with my moonroof on my 2019 F150 and have it on my 2021 Tremor. I like the extra light, scenery, and being able to monitor for circling Rotorheads.

Never had a problem with moonroof on my cars. Don't always use it since Miami is hot and humid but it's nice sometimes. It's nice on road trips as well. Don't offroad hard enough to be worried about it breaking, also never seen one break offroad (it's on top of the truck??).

Rattling and leaks imo are unlucky or older trucks and cars. I've never had either.

I mostly got it because I got every option on the 402A and I think the resale value would be hurt having a fully loaded truck without a moonroof. It's only 1k out of a 73k msrp truck.

Definitely get one. I use it all the time in the warm weather and it is nice to let the sun it. It is 100% worth it.

I've got one on my '15. It rattles but that is taken care of by greasing the seals every oil change. Mine also leaks water during some rain events. It lets in a few drops of water sometimes on the drivers side A-pillar and sometimes on the passenger side grab handle. Never more than 1oz or so of water.
Neither of these is ideal but I'm hoping they have it worked out for the new trucks because I ordered one on my '22.
That full view moon roof changes the whole interior of the truck IMO. I live in coastal SC where it gets pretty hot and have never noticed excessive heat coming from it.

Have you made sure your drains are clear? Water should leak into the channels but also should drain away.

I wasn't able to order my Tremor, only reserve it (it was only one dealer was going to get in 2021!).. I would not have ordered it with it.
Now, however, I really enjoy the extra sunlight and openness it provides. If I was able to order, I would have chosen the Torsen and 360 cameras instead (401a).. but no regrets!

I had the same experiences as Rotorhead in my '16 Platinum w/o the shattering, and my moms '18 Platinum SD 350 has been broken for the past year and just shattered. But.... there are a lot of people that have never had issues with them. When it was working it was awesome, and even after it was broken closed I enjoyed retracting the screen just for the view on rainy days or clear nights. The factory screen/cover does a great job of eliminating wind noise and excessive heat/cold, to the point where its a non issue and un noticeable IMHO. It also looks AMAZING when opened up, really changes the interior and is my default setting most of the year (gets to hot for me in the summer). The wife loves it, kids love it, I wouldn't have ordered it but I got one off the lot and it wasn't a big enough issue to reject the truck. Order a tube of the Kytox grease though!

Any particular reason your misspelled Chief? Or does Cheif2Slo mean something?

There are some documented cases of them shattering for no reason on the highway/freeway. Rare, but it does happen.

I've had my rattles (do to track alignment) repaired about every 20k miles starting at 20k, so I wouldn't consider that old. I also put about 20k/year on my vehicle, so it gets annoying to have it fixed every year. That and getting them to diagnose it is a pain. It takes me a couple oil changes for the tech to finally hear it.

He/She did ask....haha

This doesn't solve track issues and rattling, only the seal sticking
Most of the track issues are CAUSED by the seal sticking and general infrequent use. The seal sticks so will not release so the tracks bind and grind.

I havent but its at the dealer now for a starter and they are going to clear the drains while there.

Just a typo when creating this account, it’s my default handle and I fat fingered it. Maybe it’ll bother me enough one day to ask a mod to change it…. On a side note my son has stolen it on x-box (I don’t video game) so if anyone plays and thinks I’m acting like a 13 year old.. he is🤣
