2023 F150 Tremor Metallic Gray
2/28/23 purchase. Carbonized grey; 402A; Torsen diff; 18speakers; addeded Diamondback SE smooth cover and Dualliner bed liner; this has box linked set up. Fantastic looking truck. Now the bad news: been to dealer 3x for deep sleep battery issue. Battery checked out bad. Replaced. No problem for one week. Deep sleep issue back again. Dealer checked new battery which registered weak. Driverside door panel issue. New panel and another battery check this coming Friday. No one at Ford has any idea what is going on to drain battery. This sucks. Less than 1k miles but 73k+ and now I have to deal with this. Not sure when the battery will fail on the road. Come on Ford! What is the fix for this? Will post Friday's inspection results.

Welcome and congratulations on the new truck. I wouldn't sweat the battery issue. Very common across the entire truck and Expy line up. These new trucks have a pretty high eletrical overhead just sitting in the driveway. If you don't daily drive them they will discharge. Once you get a good solid battery you should be fine unless it's alternator related.

Thank you. Hopefully dealer will tweak the modules. The new battery drain was not expected. In any event. Awesome ride!/

Fozzy, thanks for your comment. The OP noted that the battery was replaced and the issue re-occurred. With that in mind, how does "getting a good solid battery" solve a known issue of battery failure, especially if you are correct that a root cause or contributor is "high electrical overhead sitting in the driveway" ?

Not trying to argue the point; as a future SD Tremor buyer I am just trying to understand because batteries dying when parked is simply not acceptable and would be a big problem for me when parked at a trailhead. Setting up with dual batteries and an isolator might help with that problem, but IMO it should not be necessary.

Also, I have modified my '05 4R a fair amount with dual batteries, amateur radio, refir, BCDC chargers, (at one point I had an isolator but my "pro shop" removed it), etc. etc. and I don't have any significant "parasitic drain" issue with that vehicle (is "parasitic drain" the right phrase?).

There has been pages of reported bad batteries on almost all the forums. A lot of trucks have sat in a parking lot for months waiting on chips and parts to complete production. My truck was over 6 months old before final assembly. I am pretty sure Ford didn’t run battery tenders out to all the vehicles stored in parking lots. Then the fact that they couldn’t produce trucks fast enough causing long shelf times. But this is F-150 group and I am not sure if the new 2023 SuperDuty has electric steering and brake booster, Bluecruise etc…. But this video does a good job explaining how the BMS works. 5-8 amp draw parked ignition off. 18 amp draw with ignition on truck off. Pretty high loads compared to trucks with less tech. Pretty sure your 05’ doesn’t have Wi-Fi, cell service, world wide remote start. The OP could have more problems, but for most its bad battery, short drive times or days without driving at all. If my Expy or Tremor sit for a full week I will get the deep sleep warning on the app. Charge it up and it’s good for a while. (Note: use a AGM charger 10 amps or better) Battery always tests good and so does the charging system. So you have to maintain the battery if you don’t drive enough to keep the battery fully charged. The truck does give you a warning and goes into deep sleep mode to stop a lot of the draw. It shuts down the Wi-Fi, cell service, entry lighting, pre fuel prime, splash screens, anything it can to make sure it still starts. With an AGM battery anything below 12 volts is entering the danger zone. Anything below 11.5 volts is killing the battery.

TY. Friday new battery checked fine. Been driving it all weekend. Truck sat overnight Saturday. Put my multimeter on it Sunday morning: 12.3v! Not acceptable. This is becoming a real drain on me with time back and forth to dealer. Wifed warned me about buying this truck but, I love it and only want a Ford Fix Fast! Running out of options because dealer did a full factory sw reset on Friday. Not sure what Ford will have to say on Monday. Stay tuned.

Guys I get there is more drain on these trucks than others, but I can leave mine for a week at a time and never have this issue, lots of others aren't having issues either. I've seen several complaints though not just on this forum but elsewhere and it makes me wonder if the issue lies somewhere else, other than all the electronics we have, maybe a problem with wiring harnesses or something.

Mine sat for 96 hours at the airport while I flew out to Vegas and was fine upon returning. Hoping I won’t have any issues when I go away for a week for my honeymoon this summer haha. But yeah, so far not having any issues like this. Just over 4K miles on the truck.

Left for a week with the low battery warning? I would bet not. The problem is the truck's alternator maintains the charge but is not a battery charger. This has been an ongoing. problem since the introduction of the ASS and AGM system. The OP proves the point, drives it all weekend and the battery is still at 12.3 volts. I only have a 10 amp charger, (AGM charge profile) I loose 5 amps to the trucks systems. It takes a good 12 plus hours to completely charge the AGM battery. I drive my truck twice a week for short trips unless it's dune or boating season. I can get a month before the deep sleep warning. But the last few weeks with all the OTA updates I have received the battery is in deep sleep earlier than normal. But there is always a possibility the dealership is only checking the battery with the hand held load gauge. If they plug it in they can see if all the charging system is up to par and even how many days the battery has been in service. But the dealer can rule out the charging system.

Same here. I've had mine since November and it's just coming up to 400 miles, so I obviously don't use it much. I get the alerts and screen messages. I can tell also that the lights don't come on when approaching and interior lights and screens don't light either that it's low. I haven't had any starting issues though, so ignore it. It's been that way on my past 4 Ford/Lincolns I've owned since retiring. When I drove nearly every day, I never got these alerts.

600 miles on the truck, battery only charged to 12.7 volts after 5 hours at 15 volts/10 amps. Also getther low battery messages on the Ford Pass, for $73K this is an issue.
Headed to the Dealer after work.

I had this happen, and thought of something. Hasn’t happened since. My garage and our master closet share the same wall. I left my keys in the closet over night twice, and twice have gotten the deep sleep notification the following day. I make sure to leave my keys further in the house - no issues.

My guess is there is nothing wrong with the truck. When the keys are nearby the truck, it “wakes up” right? I bet your keys are close to the truck, and that’s the issue.

Interesting... I keep the key in the vehicle with the truck in the garage. I've owned it for about a month, and it has about 1,200 miles. I drive it every other day or so, so not regular use, but I've seen the partial sleep mode message on FordPass one time after the truck sat for 2-3 days. It started up just fine when I went back to it. I noticed that leaving the key inside doesn't really seem to affect much, it just fires up the lights, pump prime, etc, when it senses someone walking up to it. (likely using the blind spot sensors).

It knows if the key is in the cabin. If it’s outside the cabin ,but close, it will keep waking it up, thinking you are approaching. At least my 402a will. It turns on the DRL, tailights, bed lights, mirror lights, and screens.

I’ve made sure to not keep my keys near it, haven’t had the issue since. Accidentally left my keys in the nearby closet two nights ago, deep sleep mode activated following morning.

Ture, mine will sit in the garage for more than a week when I'm on-call and drive my work truck. So, something's up with that.

Where do you keep your keys? See my posts above.

Since I had my battery replaced and turned off the approching light function I have not gotten another low battery message, my truck has been sitting non-driven for over 10 days.

Where is the approaching light function setting?
