All,

First time posting!

There are 3 identical 402A Tremors at 3 different dealerships in my immediate area. Each is listed for around the same price online. Does anyone have advice for how to negotiate across the dealerships to get the price / interest rate as low as possible? How much should I expect these dealerships to compete, based on supply and the time of year? Am I wasting my time by pitting them against one another?

Details:
  • Tremor 1: $73,990
  • Tremor 2: $74,738
  • Tremor 3: $74,680
I could buy before the end of the month if needed.
Would finance or pay cash depending on the deal, but prefer to finance if the rate is low.
No trade in.

Thanks in advance!

Get OTD on your second favorite. Take one last Test drive (without the salesman) into the dealership where your favorite is located. Ask them for their best OTD price on your favorite. Then buy the one with the best OTD price.

Stealerships and their buisness models are all about squeezing every penny they can out of you.

You could take a safe discount number (X-pricing is usually $5-6K dollars depending on where you live) and subtract that from the cost of any of these, go to each dealer and play the “Dealer 1/2/3 offered me $5K off Tremor 1/2/3”

See how each of them respond. If they say they can’t do that then you have your answer. Play that game at each dealer and see which one caves first.

Have you considered looking at TREMORS in different states? If you find something cheaper, use that to your advantage against your local dealers.

Tell them that you’re more than happy to take a cheap flight to another state and drive it back home.

The worse thing they can say is no.

A few things. Never pay MSRP or second sticker. Ever. Never buy an extended warranty that is not OEM (no 3rd party).

I've bought a LOT or vehicles so there's layers to your question beyond pricing.

You have 3 specimens to choose from. Inspect carefully. PAINT. All the little details of QC interior trim and body panel fitment just for starters. Made in KC or Dearborn? VIN # and MFG date. ALL brands and types of trucks are mass produced. A Monday truck and a Friday truck on the assembly line may be way different outcomes for the end user.

Since you can choose between 3 of the same (assuming color and trim level) this puts you in a unique position to be picky.

Sit down tell them if they get to whatever number you have in mind you’ll purchase right then other wise you’re going to think about it and keep shopping. Stick to whatever # it is, doesn’t hurt to mention you’ve done your research and there is two other close by that are your next stop and you’re ready to buy

Interest you’ll have to do your own research on before going in

Pick the one with the oldest manufacture date and negotiate down from their current offer. Chances are it's been on the lot the longest. I believe for Ford, a dealer has up to 120 days to sell a vehicle, after that, they begin incurring interest charges on the vehicle. In the past, I got some serious discounts simply because the dealer wanted the vehicle off their lot before interest began accruing.

Get an online quote from Grainger or another recommended online dealer. Walk into your dealers with the quote and ask them to match it. If you're not happy with the deal, maybe a plane ride to pick up a custom build.

Second the Grainger quote. They will happily give you a written 4% below invoice quote to work with. And as mentioned, if they don’t get down to that seriously consider Grainger outright. That’s what I did and it was great.

Also beware of the listed prices and if any of them will do/have done dealer things to the trucks with costs not included in the list price. “That was the price before we did bedliner, floor mats, nitrogen in the tires, that all adds $4K.” Hopefully none are pulling those shenanigans but good to know if the list price is for real before going too far down the road.

When I did the math with granger (I ordered a tremor from them) their price was around 8-9% off msrp (with the 4% below msrp deal). So figure 8-10% off is good.
