Noise like something in bed?

When hitting any type of bump in the road I hear something like I have a couple 2x4’s in bed. My best guess is my retrax tonneau cover bouncing hitting top of tailgate. Installer left about 3/8”” gap between bottom of tonneau and top tailgate.
Thoughts?

That's a big gap so I would dare say you hit the nail on the head. Why would they leave that big of a gap?

It’s the ford version of retrax. Dealer install. Guessing they didn’t know what they were doing. I’ll have to find some utube video and adjust . See if it helps.
