New to me 23 Tremor 3.5 ecoboost
So I’m getting ready for my first oil change, I know the dealer changed the oil back in June when I bought it and it’s coming up on 4K mile since then, oil life showing
40% life left but I’m itching to put my oil of choice Mobil 1 in it, I would normally buy the oil and filter and take it to the Mobil quick Change and they would change it for 20$ so couple of questions, Can I expect them to charge me more $ because of the skid plates on the Tremor? Second, im thinking of doing the first oil change my self so I know what’s involved and I’ve heard some people say that the whole skid plate should be removed to make it easier to change the oil, anyone have experience with this tell me there thoughts on this?

Thanks

You can just remove the access panel in the skid plate and its no problem for the filter; the pan drain is under the rear felt portion. Only complaint is I can never figure out where the oil filter runoff will drain.

Note that I took mine to a dealer and they just drained about 2 quarts into the raptor skid.... And left it.

If you change your own oil the same way every time, the oil filter runoff will be in the same place every time.

If you’re able, always change your own oil so you’ll know that it’s done right.
With that being said, you only have to remove the access panel to change your oil.
Also, a pair of 16K rated Rhino ramps or equivalent will make the job much easier.

It's more that I forget what skid hole(s) it'll come out of; I only change it once a year at my current rate - I'll get it next time, or just keep pulling out the bigger pan.

Get a fumoto valve and thank yourself ahead of time.
I support this, went on my first change.

Now we just need oil filter manufacturers to get on the same page and offer filters with a drain plug. My family has a KIA SUV, and the KIA oil filter has a pull plug. Yes its a more expensive filter. No I dont care, bc its the cleanest and easiest filter replacement of all time.

An oil extractor and a top mount oil filter is the fastest/cleanest oil change I have done. I use that method in my daughters Beetle and on my previous mk7 GTI.

Ahh okay.

I’ve always been an advocate of doing your own oil change but now I’ve leaned towards dealerships again. Resale values seem to be so heavily weighted on carfax it isn’t worth it anymore to do in house. Unless your keeping your truck forever that is…

Valvomax is the option I went with.

Oh god that is what I fear happening.
Oh don't worry I smelled it about 20 miles down the road. Made a u turn. And left with a loaner vehicle while they steam cleaned and degreased my engine bay.

5.0 in my fx4, stupid drain tray under the filter, makes a mess every time, hate changing oil in this vehicle. Can never get a can of brake clean in there to spray out tray either. Drips oil residual for 2 days, just a drip or two to annoy my ocd. LOL, rant done.

While the 6.0 Diesel had it's issues, the cartridge oil filter was not one of them. Nice to be able to pull it from the top, and the oil drained into the engine/pan and then out with the rest of the oil.

Hate to say it, but my girlfriends Jeep is nice for the same reason. 🫢 She's just scheduled her last free oil change, so a fumoto valve will be purchased with my next Amazon order.
