New member, first post here. I’m purchasing my truck from overseas (AD USAF) with the intent for it to be ready for delivery upon my return to CONUS (June or July ‘22). Two options are either Military Auto Source (roughly MRSP, less discounts), or volume dealer order from whatever dealer near Washington DC or Cincinnati Ohio can get lowest (have seen some threads with sub MRSP or invoice pricing, but not local).

My first question is timing: is the 24-26 week lead time estimate on the sticky accurate, or has it been less/more for those recently ordered/delivered? I’d read in the “just ordered” thread and it seems like less, but wanted to verify.

Second question is pricing: Anyone in the NOVA or Ohio/Ky/Indiana area find a volume dealer placing special orders for invoice or less?

Full disclosure, I’m also considering a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Diesel, but the F-150 Tremor checks a lot of boxes for me, especially coming from a 2015 F-150 that I sold a few years ago and miss dearly. I like the off-road chops of the Jeep, but don’t like the road manners, less space, and cheaper feel compared to the Ford. In the past I’d owned a Truck and a Jeep, and want to go down to just one to simply life (moving cross country every two years is a circus). Seems the Tremor will meet the majority of our needs better, while maybe not quite as good as the Rubicon off road. But I’d be happy with either, and if we go off road more, strong chance the smaller footprint of the Jeep may come in handy.

If the lead time of Tremor doesn’t support a summer delivery then it may just decide for me. I have to drive a small camper cross country to the next duty station, so availability is a deciding factor. Jeeps seem to be getting built pretty quick currently (~8 week lead time). MRSP Pricing is similar (402a w/sunroof vs loaded diesel rubicon), but a few volume Jeep dealers are selling 6% below invoice (no kidding, have quotes). Always like a good deal, but I’d sooner pay a little more for the Ford because it seems like a lot more truck.

Long first post, but a lot of context going into the next purchase, as if buying a car these days wasn’t already complicated enough.

First, thank you for your service. I am a retired Army guy myself.
Next, I went from a Ram 1500 Rebel to a Jeep Gladiator, and it was horrible. Aside from the fact that it was hugely underpowered for the size of the Gladiator, the transmission was horrible. Look on their forums and you will see a lot of people having these transmission issues and Jeep taking forever to fix them. Additionally, compared to a full size pickup, the road noise was terrible. Constant drone, wind, and tire noise
Lastly, if you can work it, I would contact one of the dealers here that is offering 3-4% off invoice. It will potentially save you over 6k off MSRP depending on how you option it out. Be aware that it is taking 5 months or so for most people to get their trucks, so you could just wait and place an order in Feb or March with a volume dealer and take delivery in the timeline you are talking about. If the covenience of the AAFES program is worth the 6k to you that is for you to decide.
Welcome to the forum.
