Wanted some sort of storage in bed for socket set, jumper cables, hitches etc. and I use a lot of packout gear for work and always am hauling it around. So I got some stainless Rivenuts (m5) and plan to leave the big box in at all times and if I need to haul something big I can just take it out.

That’s an awesome Idea! I’d be worried about galvanic corrosion though. Stainless and aluminum don’t play together very well. Those plates are rad though, didn’t know they existed!

I thought stainless was the way to go? That’s what everyone recommends for mudflap installation. They really are handy AF.

Welp you heard it here first your right I’m wrong. Definitely was told by multiple people that stainless was good for aluminum. I guess That’s what I get for not researching the fuck out of something. For the time it would take should I drill em out and get some aluminum rivenuts? Clearly I’m new to the whole aluminum truck thing.

Great idea @captain lead foot !
Is there room to mount those plates further forward toward the cab? Whats the access like to be able to get a rivenut up that far?
Would you be comfortable loading 15 sheets of plywood on top of those plates? how about throwing some firewood in there?

I've been searching for a solution to store misc tools, jumper cables, ratchet straps and chains and this looks like a good one. Certainly better than a tool box held in place with a spreader bar.

Seen those. I actually bought the velcro molle tech panels. I may end up getting the racks but really want something that i can mount a tool box to and remove quickly if needed. I guess I could get a bunch of pouches and mount those to the Builtright racks.
This milwaukee system just seems like it would fit the bill.

Swingcase works too.

Or you could just monitor what you have in place already for a bit. (It’s a slick setup for what you do - great thinking.)
I have some stainless steel screws holding down aluminum plate to some mild steel tubing. Some said I would have problems. Going on 6 years now...no issue. The mild steel was painted though I tapped into raw metal. YMMV.
Just keep an eye on it. It’s not something that will happen catastrophically over night ending in an explosion or anything. 🤣

There’s a 1/2” gap to the front of the bed that I left there so there’s enough room to open the top lid as the bed has a bit of a lip at the top. Yes I’d have no problem stacking that much plywood on top they are very strong, had one in my last truck that stood the test of time quite well.

Kinda what my plan has been. To easy to focus on other mods lol

@captain lead foot what keeps these boxes from coming off the plates? Do they slide in and lock? Will they stay on there while driving around/off roading?

Each box clips into itself. Best go watch some YouTube videos about the stuff if your curious as they have a lot of different box’s. They recommend you put a strap over them during transport but from my experience if you stick within the weight ratings your fine I’ve never had one pop off and I’ve had packout stuff for a couple years now.

Most of my packout stuff is not tremor related but I needed a easy/convenient way to throw a chainsaw/chainsaw goodies in the truck. Happen to have this crate laying around not being used and BAM total solution to my problem and free AF, even already had the pouches on there from previous hand took storage.
