Know most trucks on here likely have mirror lights included, but has anyone added aftermarket? Looking to add to aux switches, mostly for camping, kids/Mrs dropping things at night, mud/footing, etc.

Any personal recommendations on lights, and any recommendations on ideal mounting locations under truck?

Maybe some rock lights! I saw this the other day! The Diode Dynamics rock lights are bright!

Huh. Those are nice, form fitted like that. Will prob stick to lights underneath, but rock lights are an option, yeah, thanks for posting!

This is actually on my short list of projects to replace the OEM puddle lights with diode dynamics rock lights.

I was hoping you would like the idea, with that scanner of yours it shouldn’t be too hard! Would you try and mount it under the mirror?

Plan is to replace the OEM puddle lights. So same location they are in under the side mirrors.

This thread inspired me to actually start working on my puddle light idea. Got a pretty great scan of the OEM puddle light panel and camera mount!

Hopefully can figure out how to use this and make a new housing to replace the OEM light with a DD rock light.

ok so i'm stumbling my way through figuring out how to make a part based on 3d scan data. this is a really rough model. there's a lot of non smooth surfaces because i generated them based on the scan data and it isn't perfect. but conceptually, i think this is moving in the right direction.

this is the scan data imported into my modeling software(fusion 360) as a mesh body.

and this is the part that ive modeled based on the mesh data:

And this is the part overlayed on the mesh body: the pink showing through is where the scanned mesh body is slightly larger than the modeled body. we are talking around .5mm or less in most cases and it really only matters at the mating faces of the part to the side mirror housing.

im going to keep refining it a bit and hopefully i can try printing it to test later this week/weekend.

That’s sick!! Are you going to have to print an entire bottom piece for the mirror with the mounting spot for the rock light?

I've got oem mirrors off the truck and a printer if you want some test fitting without screwing with yours fyi

yea, this would be a complete replacement of that oem bottom piece.

appreciate the offer, but it takes all of 2 min to disassemble the side mirror. so no worries about messing with mine.

Ok, I’m impatient so I went ahead and printed as is to test fitment and just see what it looks like :LOL::LOL:
Which pods are these, the Tacoma kit linked above? Seems sweet, the current puddle lights don't do too much when you hit the button in the cab. Very interested in getting this

These are diode dynamics rock lights

Unsurprised how quickly that escalated into a test print hah!

Lookin good. How does it fair towards the back of the truck given the angle?
I didn’t actually wire a pod in. It’s just a spare lens I had.
