So I know there's been lots of posts about rear end noise and clunking etc, I've had a weird noise and clunk I can feel when driving that been bothering me. I finally decided to grab the wheel and shaken it and I an able to replicate it. Sounds like it's coming from the pumpkin but there's no clunk or lash when accelerating or decelerating etc so I don't think it's in the gears. I'm going to check the spring perch bolts for tightness etc later today but wonder if anyone else has had this noise. Appolgise on tbe video as I was trying to gold my phone with one hand and shake the wheel with the other. The noise is more near the end, not the squeak.

Maybe the leaf spring isolators need a greasing. There is also a service bulletin relating to changing out the u-bolts as the block may have some movement. Do you notice it going uphill on a turn or angle?
My clunk was the drive shaft. Took it off and greased the spindle and she was perfect, that’s was the accel/decel one though.

Seems to do it on turns, don't notice on hills but it seems to be getting worse.
Im going to crawl under today and check all tbe bolts I can for tightness.
What are these isolators you mention that need greasing?
I just can't afford to loose a day to take to the dealer to be told they can't replicate etc

I see your problem and it is easily solved with some rear wheel well liners.

I have the same problem. Searched and searched for solutions to avoid the dealer visit. Especially noticeable when leaving my slope driveway.

Initially sprayed the leaves with a dry lube. That made the sound way worse.

Pressure washed them, sprayed white lithium grease but that lasts maybe two weeks without the noise. Soaked it all in engine degreaser, pressure washed again, and hit it with the dry line again. So far so good.

I've also tried re-torquing everything, which helped, then didn't.

Dealer visit is inevitable, but for now seems ok.

Ya I crawled under last night and checked everything which is tight as I can see. Guess the dealer trip is inevitable as you say, but if I get the "we can't reproduce" BS line 🙄

When you say you lubed the pads, what pads are you talking abiut? Where the spring pack mounts to the axle?

The part whwre all the springs come together under the u bolts

Ah ok that's what I was wondering, can't really grease em without taking em apart.

My 15 crew I had to get some special grease from the dealer and remove the drive shaft and lube up the splines on it. Seems the coating on the shaft from the factory wasn't doing its job. I thought the transmission was going. It would slam pretty good on down shifts in the tow haul mode.

Thats what they did to my 23 on its first service. Had the truck for something like 10 days and ran all the gas out of it.
5,000km later and the clunk is back worse than ever.

That's what worries me, if it's fixed will it come back. This noise is definitely in the rear end, happens when the frame flexes. Don't think it's the driveshaft but should probably still lube the yoke at some point.

Sully that's what my 23 makes now that I put the rss system on it somebody on here said something about tightening up the u-bolts on the actual leaf springs to the axle they weren't tourqed very tight

So I got it back from the dealer today, they were able to reproduce the clunking and found it to be a body bushing on the rear, had to order a damper and some bolts (the lady service writer didn't seem to know very much 🙄)
As far as I know only the cab has bushings or dampers, the box is hard mounted to the frame cross rails with a thin shim/pad. Guess I'll see if it fixes it in a month or so.

I hope this fixes your issue.

Isn’t it annoying when service writers, as well as sales people know very little about the vehicle brand they represent.

I had a very noticeable "clunk" at step-off from every stop. To me, it felt like the entire rear end was shifting. Truck was in the dealer's shop for an A/C TSB and I asked them to check out the "clunk". First call back, they gave me the standard "tech could not duplicate" but said the Service Manager was going to drive it. About 3 hours later, I get a call the truck is ready. Paperwork said they removed the drive shaft and greased the splines of the transmission yoke. I drove the truck on a 4 hour road trip, yesterday, with many red light stops and I did not hear or feel the "clunk". We will see how long is lasts but, at least in my case, this seemed to do the trick.

Exactly, all she had to do was read the techs notes but then again he might of given her criptic info. When I go back to have the parts install I'll be asking to speak to the tech directly.
At least I was able to verify that he actually did diagnose it as they didn't cover or disconnect my fr/rr dash cams. Saw him shaking the hell out of it for 15-20mins and test driving it in circles in a rough lot next door. So I have some hope.

When I went in for the initial concern I took tbe service manager for a drive to make him hear it and verify he heard it so I didn't get the "can't reproduce" BS. I mentioned the slip yoke issue and he knew about it but they seem to only want to fix one issue at a time. If have to book back in for that if this bushing doesn't fix it.

My tremor has this same exact noise. Took it in to the dealer, they replaced the driver side leaf spring… noise was gone for about 3 weeks and now it is back and seems worse and to be coming from both sides. When you hear it inside the cab it has like a hollow sound almost like a loose muffler but it definitely isn’t. The last reply to this thread was April, anyone have a solid diagnosis on this since?? Low speed, side to side uneven terrain causes it.
