I'll be picking up my truck from Granger Ford next week. So now I'm starting to think about the next phase.. Registration.

Those of you who have already gone through the process, do you have any advise or hints (specially in Connecticut)?

I'm unsure if it is an Iowa thing but I received the Iowa title a couple weeks ago and registered my truck, this week.

The woman at the clerks office was complaining because she had to do extra work because there was an out of state title. That and the local sales tax ti the tune of $2,800 made me cry inside

I’ll register my truck in Az at 5.6% but no city or county tax saving me $1500. Gotta Love Granger.
Wait, I should copy-write that tag line! Zack/Chip don’t you dare steal it!

So I can leave Granger with the temp tag and register permanent when I'm down here in Miami right?

Connecticut puts the screws to you:
Sales tax is 6.35% OR 7.75% on vehicles costing over $50,000.
Title Fee: $25
Registration Fee: $75
Plate Transfer Fee: $20
I won't be surprised if there are more fees that come up once I get there.

As far as I can tell, since Covid started, I will need to make an appointment with DMV for the privilege to pay these fees.

Sounds like we might have it good in SC. They cap the sales tax at $500 but we have yearly county taxes that will probably be $500+ on this truck.

You almost had a roommate. We pay our state and local sales tax @ 9.75%- the value of our trade-in

This is exactly why I didn't bother buying from Granger- it all rolled into my finance package... at 2% I'm good with it. CT sucks. But I just built a new house and love where I live... 🤷‍♂️

I'm ready for Ohio to really give it to me...

Buying out my lease, trading in as used car for equity and trying to get the tax credit for doing so...

The Ohio BMV has been worthless, idk how they expect the clerk to get it right.

I've thought about selling privately but not quite sure if it's net positive at the end of the day.

This is a follow-up regarding the registration process. I got my truck registered in Connecticut last Tuesday. Here are a couple of hints for people who purchased the truck from Granger and need to register it in CT.
1) You will receive a temporary registration extension and a Title via Fed Ex from Granger in about 2 weeks.
2) Take your paperwork to an Emissions Testing place and get a "Vin Verification" done. It costs $10.00 and is required for out of state purchase.
3) Verify that you have no outstanding city tax due using the DMV on-line portal.
4) Make a DMV appointment using the DMV on-line portal.
5) Documents needed at DMV when doing the registration:
  • Bill of Sale from Granger (Motor Vehicle purchase agreement)
  • Title that you received from Granger via Fed Ex
  • Vin Verification
  • Completed Registration Application
  • Insurance Card
  • Lienholder information (if you took a loan)
  • If transferring plates from your old truck bring the old registration
5) This is the ridiculously LONG list of fees that I had to pay. This is for Connecticut other states are probably different (They take credit cards):
  • Administrative fee $10
  • Clean air fee $15
  • Emissions 4-year Exempt fee $40
  • Greenhouse Gas Fee $7.50
  • Lien Fee $10
  • Passport to Parks Fee $15
  • Record Transfer fee $20
  • Registration Fee $222 (I got a discount because I had a few months left on my old registration)
  • Sales Tax $(based on full purchase price)
  • Title Fee $25
  • Vehicle Transfer Fee $21 (I think this is because I transferred plates instead of buying new ones)
Connecticut loves to bend you over and let you have it with all their fees.

I got through the process on the first visit. If you don't have all your ducks in a row, you will be rejected and you will have to make another appointment to go back to finish.
I hope this helps some people.

Don't feel too bad about your sales tax. I had to pay $3,942.00 in sales tax.

Ouch. Do they try to push people to move? I'm sure there's a fee for that, too

I will owe 6% in FL so just around $4k.

I was a little skeptical about the Iowa in transit tag here but the tag office said its legal. Hopefully the title comes by the end of this week. I also have to fill out a few forms and have someone verify the VIN and all that. No inspection at least.

Ouch! I liking Tennessee, as soon as my paper work came in I went to the county office and transferred my tag $0!

Well, you paid sales tax somewhere. Those of us who purchased from Ganger, needed to pay that separately

True I did pay sales tax but to see some of these other states fee's is ridiculous, I used to live in Virginia that's why I moved to TN the cost of stuff was much less.
