F150 Tremor Lead Foot
When I picked up my new Tremor I saw some rust on the rear axle but didn't look super closely. Nonetheless, I brought it up to the dealer and the manager gave me a completely bogus response about how Ford engineers know more than he does and evidently engineered the parts in a way that would show rust but there was nothing to worry about as everything is under warranty, etc.

Anyway, I was installing wheel well liners today and became really upset with the amount of rust on a brand new truck. I assume the dealer and Ford won't do anything about it until, or if, it becomes a warranty problem but this is ridiculous. I have been a Toyota guy as I had two Tundras and a Tacoma before I bought this Tremor and never had a single mechanical issue or rust so this makes me question my decision to make the jump to Ford. I love everything else about the Tremor but this is souring me pretty bad. Oh well, I'm committed at this stage but super frustrated.

i think most have some rust on the real differential housing, some are removing rust and spraying, others just leaving, but I would say get some fluid film or other rust inhibitor on the area to stop it from getting worse. I agree it is totally unacceptable but Ford does not seem to care.

Thanks MN. I've contacted the dealer and sent them pics so we'll see. I'll do as you say and work to keep it from getting worse while I wait to get a formal response from the dealer.

Guys it's nothing but a surface rust, while looking at it is annoying it doesn't hurt anything, there's many ways to cover it or "fix" it, the easiest though has not been mentioned, it's a product meant for wood stoves, it's called stove black, just meant to season or cover up any surface rust on your wood stove. You can pick it up most hardware stores, tractor supply, etc. Just rub it in and done.

Thanks! I'll check that out. Just pretty frustrating if nothing else to see it on a brand new truck.

I don’t want to burst your bubble but they aren’t going to do anything about it. I’ve had my dealer talk to Ford and went through a different dealer and had them talk to Ford as well. Simply put, it doesn’t affect the mechanics of the truck so they aren’t required to fix it and they already have your money so they don’t really care. It’s so common amongst all of their trucks that they don’t want to absorb the monetary cost of fixing it.

Not bursting my bubble. I fully understand that's the likely outcome which increases the frustration but seems like there are some solutions on here that will help both aesthetically and to keep it from getting worse.

I’m with you. It irritates me to no end. I don’t care how easy the fix is, the fact remains that it shouldn’t need a fix and more so I shouldn’t have to be the one to fix it.

I just put the POR-15 stuff on mine this weekend. I don't think the surface rust would ever hurt it, and I didn't really care about it to be honest. But someone else did it and posted the results. It does look pretty damn good all cleaned up so I did it too. 30 bucks and maybe 2 hours of work, looks pretty good now.

I have nothing to add to this discussion but I initially read your username very differently.
