I was going to have Line X undercoat and rustproof while they were doing my bedliner. I run a lot of gravel roads. $550.00. Seems money well spent. Thoughts?

500ish is around the right price. We'll worth it IMHO, but where I live we get lots of salt on the roads and it destroys the undercarriage. For the gravel roads I find it adds more sound deadening and reduces damage from flying rocks. I always pick up a can of undercoat and touch up spots they may have missed.

yup. that's on the list, too

I was at the dealership talking to them about undercoat and rustproofing. I was told that Ford now recommends against it. That was the first I have heard of this. In the past I've heard claims it's not worth the money but never not to get it. I was already planning to undercoat and rustproof but not sure now.

Undercoating is always recommended against with a material like linex because then its a hassle to remove or replace anything.

Maybe they interpreted it that way, as thats usually what undercoating refers to. I can't imagine painting it with rustproof paint will do anything adverse, and it definitely won't get in the way of removing parts or replacing them. It's far better than leaving surface rust on it.

My local line-X place wanted $900. I passed, but I’d get it for $500, time to start making some phone calls

Talked to 2 more dealers and they both said Ford recommends not to. I finally got a good answer why, the sensors. There is a spray to help with rust on the metal from the manufacturer, nothing in comparison to a linex. It appears that a lot of customers would wind up with check engine lights coming on because of the overspray. All sensors have to be removed or taped over before spraying.

That makes sense to me too. I guess if the center spraying the linex is diligent enough to keep all sensors clean it would still be good. But 3 different aftermarket sellers at dealerships said they would not recommend nor encourage at all.

I think most of us would agree that Ford's spray does indeed help rust form... :)

Planned to brush it on with foam brushes as another user did to avoid a situation just like that with overspray.
