I backed the truck in and dropped the spare to verify. It is indeed a full size spare with premium rim — 5 tire rotation :)

Awesome good to know. Ty

The question is do what do I replace that with? Premium wheel or cheapo steel rim? Still need to know if a 35" (34.5") will fit under there.

So I’ve been thinking about this.

The truck is developed to a specification that meets acceptable reliability and performance. Whenever we change the components of the system, reliability and performance are exchanged — usually higher performance impacts reliability negatively.

I don’t think this is necessarily bad, it just something to consider.

In my case, I’m wondering if the 1 inch of clearance is worth the lost performance in acceleration and gas mileage — I know there is a reliability hit, but it’s probably small (brake life). Also, this leads to suspension improvements so as not to rub, and more than likely a new bumper (love the ADD bumpers). Now maybe, I can introduce a new tune to boost the truck 50-75 HP to counter the performance loss — ugh, then that leads to potential engine reliability issues and more upgrades.

Maybe, I’ll just wait and see how it looks on yours Rotorhead and join you.

Do you have a friend with a 35 to try out the fit under the truck?

Oh, I found this — it looks like the 35 may fit:

More than likely, the reason for 33's over 35s is cost.

I don't even have my truck yet...lol. I am hanging on to my Black Rhinos I pulled off my Raptor to do some playing with fittment before selling them. They are the same dimensions and offset as the new wheels I'm eyeballing.

Some of the loss of performance can be gained through higher quality parts. I'm not sure of the weight of the stock wheels, but the wheels I'm looking at are 24 lbs, tires will be 60 lbs, so a net of 84 lbs. I don't know what the factory wheel weighs, but the 33" General Grabbers are 60.5 lbs. I suspect going down to a 17" wheel and buying a higher quality one will actually result is a performance gain. Going to a D rated tire on a 17" wheel will allow me to tow what I need, give extra ride comfort and also be a gain in traction.

Definitely interested in the weight difference between the rims and tires. Also, what suspension and offset you go with.

I think a new tune is the way to go afterward to boost HP.

Yes, cost is definitely something to consider when you start modifying the truck.

If you're going to tune, you may want to consider a better intercooler. Maybe a FR or AFe

I'm looking to keep my recirc when I relocate and upgrade my intercooler

I will definitely keep the forum updated. I likely will not tune, I don't really use the 450 HP my Raptor has as it is and don't want to get into warranty issues.

My spare is not balanced and does not have TPMS (the valve stem is longer than the other four and way more flexible). Talk about cutting corners. Will have to spend a few hundred bucks to achieve 5 tire rotation I guess.

Most TPMS sensors are sold in sets of 4. I will need 6 total so I can send you one. Then it's a remount and balance. As I understand it, we don't need the activation tool since Fords autolearn TPMS after 20 miles above 20mph.

Good to see you Yeti. Sounds like a plan - I'll Venmo/Zelle/Paypal you the damage when the time comes!

Well, it is a "spare" tire, but yea I get your point. If they are going to give us an exact matching wheel, just go all the way.

Exactly, I'm a little torn about this.. I mean if you keep the stock rims/tires and pretend it's a donut? But yeah would bother me knowing the spare is a full one and not rotate it.

I ordered the 4 packs and will let you know when they come in (January)

Did any of y'all end up mounting a TPMS on the spare and rotating it in? Ordered one on friday and should be in sometime this week. Plan is to have dealer balance and replace valve stem with TPMS, and I will rotate my tires for 5-wheel rotation. Coming from Jeeps, I did this for years.
