For those that have gone with an aftermarket wheel/tire combo, what are you doing for a spare? While this will be a daily driver, I will take it off-road where tire damage is a potential.

1. Could get a fifth wheel/tire like the other four, would be more expensive but would go with a five tire rotation.
2. Get a cheaper wheel and tire (same diameter as other four) and keep it strictly as a spare.
3. Skip a spare altogether and rely on repairing, including the possibility of a sidewall cut.

I'm leaning towards 1 or 2 above and keeping the spare in the garage unless going on a long trip or off-road and then securing it in the bed. On-road maybe put it under the bed if it'll fit, off-road I'd secure it in the bed to help with any clearance issues and protect it from (my luck) cutting the sidewall dragging across some rock.

Anyway, what are your thoughts?

I bought a used chrome rim and found a near new tire the same size as I upgraded with a surprisingly near identical Treat all for about $280. Sold my stock stuff as a full set of 5. I put on 295/70/18 tires and it fit under truck. Its touching the frame rail but fits fine. Believe these are about 34.5in diameter and people have gotten 35s under there but that's absolute max I'm sure but should fit

no TPMS in the spare

planning on a 295/70/18 myself, someone on here mentioned that will fit (barely) in the spare tire area

I have a set of 5 nito ridge grapplers at 35x12.50R20LTs on Brink 20x9 +0 rims and it fits just fine in the spare location. There may be room to fit 37s but it would be tight and would be real close to the exhaust.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but has anyone else fit a 35" spare under the truck? I am planning to run 315/70/17s, so they aren't a true 35" tire, but I would like to make sure it'll fit before I buy a 5th wheel and tire.

I don't have my truck yet or I would just measure or do a test fit. Any help would be appreciated!

my 295 70 18 are pretty close , 34.5" and fit fine, bit of room to spare but keep in mind how far down a 315 is going to hang, dont want it getting cut up offroad as the lowest hanging fruit on your departure angle

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like the diameter won't be an issue. This truck will be used mostly on the road with only light to moderate off-roading, so I should be okay. But that's a good point - thanks for the heads up on that.

could go with the same tire in a 275-295 and get the same outside diameter, so it doesnt stick down so far but still the same circumference then it can still go on any location to get you home. but if your not offroad may not be an issue

That's not a bad idea. I don't plan to run a 5 tire rotation, so it won't matter if it doesn't match completely.

tire width doesnt matter if its just a spare long as the same outside diameter is the same

315/70/18 and 295/75/18 for example are both 35.4" OD

It's all about the OD.

I just put 285/75R18 Falken Wilpeaks on after market wheels and put the same size tire on the factory spare rim.

I can say there is no TPMS sensor in the spare, but when I was changing the spare tire out, I had one added in. No issues with there being a TPMS sensor in it.

These tires are an "almost" 35" 34.8" diameter and it fit in the spare location on the factory rim just fine. There may be a tad bit more room but it would be tight. A wider tire (these are 11.5") also would not be a problem in that space.

Bringing this back up to the top. Bought a new Tremor but won't be seeing it or picking it up for a couple weeks. Is the spare wheel the same as the rest? Thanks

Yes the same wheel and tire, add a tpms and do 5 tire rotation if you want.

Keep in mind that when trying to get a spare of the same diameter it's not just the metric size that the tire calculator spits out - look at the actual diameter published by the manufacturer for a given rim width.

Just curious how many added the TPMS to the spare and do a 5 tire rotation? I do it just did not know if it was unusual, someone looked at me like I was crazy when I told them I did this.
