Hey all! been lurking for sometime. Trying to make the move into a new tremor from my beastly responsible Dad Honda Civic. I was thinking of a Granger order for a totally loaded 402a (Torsen, 2k, Twin Panel, Bed Package, etc.) but figuring a long time until delivery. I have read in other forums and facebook group that many orders are now getting slipped three more months for Oct/Nov orders which where the heck does that leave an order today, June, July, August?

I have the possibility of picking up virtually the same specced truck 2021 model right now, which I notice in the forums would have some of the minor deletes Ford made in 2022 (slightly lower MSRP, temp on dials, some lights, etc.). The rub of course is the dealer doesn't want to budge off of straight MSRP but there is no additional dealer markup. I just received a $3K PCO that I can use either way.

The savings to order a 2022 look to be a solid $5-6K, of course, would have to travel 1100 miles to pickup in IA (have family there though so could be a visit). I am not necessarily in a HUGE hurry but I am a little concerned that the chip shortage lingers and extreme delays persist. I do have financing locked in through February, 1.89% for 72, which in the face of rising interest rates seems like a steal and I know will definitely rise which could easily add a couple grand to financing costs. I also can get stupid equity out of my little ole civic right now which may be the case in the future but not sure. So if trade softened up a few grand by the time a 2022 order shows up and financing changes and I have to travel... do I save that much?

Maybe I am just too impatient and trying to do the mental gymnastics to justify doing RIGHT NOW! That is why I thought the smart thing to do was rely on those wise ones who have went before me!!!

I don't think anyone can really answer you question except you. If you don't want to wait and it's worth the extra money, buy the '21. If you can wait, and want to save the money plus get the truck exactly as you want, order one. We don't know how long the delays in building/delivery will be, neither do the dealers.

It seems like people have had trouble using PCO's if they weren't valid when they took delivery. I don't know how those turned out, could be it works fine, but I recall seeing several posts about issues with it. Just thought I'd mention it since that might change your calculus.

Going with Granger saved me about $7,500 and I've got a similar build to the one you are looking for.

I'm impatient. If somone told me back in early November that my truck wouldn't arrived until May '22, I would have started searching for one at MSRP. I would convince myself that selling used now would net me more money than in the future and that the difference would only be a few thousand dollars.

With that being said, I'm glad I've put down my deposit and locked in for the truck spec I want. It's kind of forced me to be patient and save $7,500 as well. Those are both good things, I think.

I passed on a Lead Foot 21 model at MSRP in November for a custom order from Granger. (It will be a 1k mile trip home for me to SLC as well.)

On the bright side, I'm saving money through Granger on a 2022. On the downside, my delivery in the next two weeks just showed up to be 3.5 months from now.

There are a million ways to look at it. The things I would treat as a "sure thing" is the following.

Pro's for going 2021

  • MSRP is higher in 2022. Depending on how you spec your order, that's a $1k difference.
  • $3k PCO may not be valid on an order if it doesn't get here very quick. That could be a $3k difference.
  • You have a locked in low rate. Rates could be a tad higher in 6 months.
  • You can pick it up now, and avoid any issues with delivery date adjustments.
  • You get the few things that were deleted off the 2022 that are kind of nice to have.
Pro's for going 2022
  • 2021 model will be "worth" less in 5 years from now just due to the fact that it's 1 model year older. How much? No telling on what that value difference is.
  • You can custom order the truck exactly how you want it.
  • Save a little more $$ by ordering through Granger.
In my quick humble opinion (without knowing what's important to you.) I think I would go for the 2021. With the PCO offer locked in, and the higher retail, I think your only going to save another $2k-$3k by ordering through Granger. Use the $3k PCO and bargain as hard as you can to get something out of the dealer. Maybe you could get a spray in bed liner thrown in, a year of free oil changes... anything really to sweeten the deal. Just my .02

I 2nd his statement, I got my thru local dealer friends and family discount paid just below MSRP and never thought twice.

Thanks all. I agree in the end lots of variables and truly a personal preference thing but good to hear thoughts on pros and cons from the group in case I miss something. I may try to bargain hard now knowing in the end there is a great fall back option ordering so I can be a little aggressive while on site. I just think all these extreme delays, even seeing what you all are posting today has me a little concerned on timing...even the halting Maverick orders is crazy. Going to wind up with a '23 at this point! HA. Come on FORD! Not their fault and really industry wide...when the hell will car buying an the market be even resonably sane again...

I got my ‘21 off the lot at MSRP in December with a 3.5k PCO. Initially they tried to up charge me 7k! I shut them down with a hard no and said I was perfectly happy to order and just wait my turn. They called me the next day and offered MSRP, I took it and don’t regret it. They gave me way more than my trade in was worth due to the crazy market which made up any savings I would have netted ordering and it’s sitting in the driveway! I did miss out on the torsen though, but I’ll survive!

This is what I did using a friend's and family, plus military, except I did get the torsen, they gave me 27k trade on my previous truck which it had 140k miles on it, haven't regretted it yet and the payment actually came out less than what I paid monthly on the last truck.
