I have seen a few articles online that advertise that the Ford F-150 Tremor has the Raptor's transfer case. After doing some research, I thought share some information that helps clarify this statement:

The F-150 Raptor comes standard with what Ford calls the "2-speed automatic Torque-On-Demand® 4WD system with Hi-Lock transfer case".
The F-150 Tremor comes standard with the more common "Electronic shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) 4WD system" that is found on many XL & XLT 4x4 F-150s. The Raptor's Torque-On-Demand® (TOD) transfer case is only available on the F-150 Tremor as part of the 402A package.

I'm sure this is another reason for the higher cost of the 402A package. Just thought this information was worth sharing.

I should’ve paid more attention when building mine.

Here's an article that explains the TOD transfer case and the Torsen differential. The article explains the benefits of this hardware in the Ford Raptor, but it applies to the 402A Tremor as well.

So if you have 4A, you have the TOD transfer case? I know my 2019 F150 Limited had it and I believe some other trims also do. If I am misunderstanding this let me know.

I'll start this with I have no actual clue. I have heard grumblings on how the Auto 4WD/ToD system is rough on the transmission. That said, there are a bunch of people who make statements and really don't know what's going on with what they're saying or repeat utter crap (see my second sentence)

All to say that worst case, you'll have to know you're in a situation to be in L4 and engage it. Something all of us are fully capably of doing.

I just had a thought, with auto pilot being a real thing, today's children won't know how to drive much less drive off road. We're a dying breed

Yup, pretty soon nobody will drive themselves.

I don't believe this is true. If you look at the image in my first post, Ford advertises a "2-speed automatic 4WD system" for the Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. This transfer case would have the 4A button in the cab, but is not the TOD transfer case.

They are different transfer cases even though they both have the 4A capability. The difference being that the Hi-Lock transfer case in the Raptor and Tremor uses mechanical locks for 4H and 4L where the regular transfer case uses a clutch system for 4H and 4L.

Great article explaining the complexities and concept of the drivetrain. Really cool technology that’s been tested in the Raptor for a few years.

Yes a dying breed we are, I personally think that's why many vehicles today are off-road focused, the manufacturers have for years focused on speed on road, now they are switching focus to off-road, to me that may be the saving grace. Fingers crossed, I took my son four wheeling the other day hoping he catches the bug. It our duty to keep it alive.

With modern cars (and now EVs) there is no reason to focus on speed anymore. A Tesla model S Plaid is faster than any Ferrari or Bugatti you can buy. This is actually a good thing though, now that cars have plenty of get up and go we can focus on making them better off-road, more comfortable, better interior/infotainment, etc. Personally the F150 Tremor provides plenty of speed for me (albeit my test drive was with nothing in the back).

Hell this tremor is the first vehicle i've owned with more than a 5 speed transmission, driving that Tremor at the dealership was like stepping into the future.

My 15 year old is learning to drive in an lifted 87 RamCharger with a 4 speed exactly for this reason!
