Finally found the truck that had everything I wanted except the Torsen diff. Decent deal at the dealer so I hate to pass it up and made a deposit to pick it up in a few days. Don’t plan on doing any crazy off road but kinda hate not having that feature. Am I making a big mistake? For reference I live in Texas so won’t be much snow driving for me. The one I test drove had it. Will I notice much difference on the road?

I would guess you will be fine without it, something else to break if you do have it, my truck does have it. I didn’t add it to my ordered truck.

really only good for offroad low speed stuff, locking diffs are terrible for snow/ice at speed, ok to get you unstuck but thats about it

no front torsen for mine and 4h without the locker on does just fine on farm lanes and fields getting back to hunting spots, money is better off spent on better tires IMO

I had a Torsen added to my truck since it wasn't in the inventory truck I ended up buying after my orders were cancelled about a year ago.
It definitely helps offroad and in deep snow to have both tires spinning pulling the truck along.

But the only on-road difference I feel is that on dry pavement in 4A (torque on demand xfer case) is that there is more torque steer with the Torsen.

For me, the availability of the torsen differential was the reason I bought the Tremor. Without it, you really just have an expensive, very slightly lifted Lariat with some variation of orange trim and no lay flat seats. But that's just me.

Not true at all. Hi-Lock transfer case is the unique feature if you do 402a. You can add a front locker to anything way cheaper than the Hi-Lock. Trail turn assist, 3:73 gears in the bigger rear end. Rear tow hooks, skids plus all the cosmetics.

Toresn’s are cool and work with no user input. It can been added later, but the $500.00 factory option is a screaming deal. But is it worth the wait to you? If I had to have it and didn’t I would go pin lock style locker instead and have full lock or full open at my discretion. Pretty interesting how the Raptor R does not have the Toresen. Maybe it can’t handle the bigger power and tire combo.

When you are right, you are right. Been 8 months since I ordered and had forgotten about that stuff as well. I'm sure I'll remember when I finally take delivery...

I got the Torsen thinking i needed it. Then I got the truck and figured no way I would ever need it. Then got into some burly trails deer hunting last week where it definitely came in handy. I'd recommend it

My 2013 FX4 has never gotten stuck. With the rear locker its always gotten me out of trouble in either snow mud or grass. Last month down in Florida I buried my passenger front side into a concrete sewer in an open field. It was 6 days after Ian had hit and the ground was still wet. I was stuck good with a blown front tire and a messed up front end. The truck got itself out with the rear locker and 4 wheel low. As angry as a was at myself I was impressed that I got out without help and back up to the road. Like others have said good tires make a huge difference. That said on the order sheet I would check the Torsen box. For $500 its cheep insurance. Buying one off the lot I guess its a personal choice.

Well if ordering it's a no brainer, I personally bought off the lot and lucked up and got one with it, never thought it would really come in handy but it has been extremely useful, the awesome thing is it works in 4a, 4H and 4L, where if you do an actual locker up front you will be limited to 4L in most instances and by the time you engage it, it could be to late, this thing does it itself in a split second, most of the time it's so fast you don't even realize it is working. To try and answer @Fozzy on why it wasn't included on the Raptor R is the engineers said that they felt the vehicle was built for high speed desert bashing and that it wasn't needed as much for that. I don't remember them saying anything about whether it could take the torque because as far as I know the 250 Tremors have the torsen and they put out more torque than the raptor R.

I saw that on TFL, seamed fishy they would want to do it with brakes instead of the locker, espeicliy at high speed. I wouldn't want my truck to be applying front brakes as I drift a turn at 60.

I didn't; know the F-150's had a Dana Super 60 front end.:ROFLMAO:

They don't lol just the torsen which operates off the same principle regardless of housing. Yes the Dana 60 is a lot stronger still same principle.

Engineer for the new Raptor R said they didn’t add it because it’s not needed anymore with the electronics and brake control. I don’t think I’ll miss it.

YUP, .22 VS .45. same principle.

Personally i wouldn't buy a Tremor without a Torsen diff (i ordered mine so made sure that i had it). Its still a great truck without it, but why not get the most offroad worthy version of the truck if you can for $500 difference?

If you bought on a lot and it wasn't included i totally get it. Still a beautiful truck without the Torsen. Plus if you need a truck right now what is on the lot is the best option.
