2025 Tremor 402A
sAfter just 2 weeks with my new Tremor, I notices the transmission temperatures go up to 210f and they fluctuate between 190-205. This is normal driving in city driving with RPMs never exceeding 3k during stop and traffic. BTW, these temps are without towing ,no added weight in the bed and ambient temperatures about low 90s.

If I recall correctly, my transmission temperatures were lower on my 2016 Lariat with the 6R80.

Just reference purposes, some of my customers vehicles with the GM 6L80 and 4L60s also run sub 200f temps under light loads and similar ambient temperatures.

This is my first 10R80 and was wondering if everyone else had similar temps?

I have a 2025 with the 3.5 Ecoboost. I am experiencing very similar temps in my truck. This past weekend, I traveled 60 highway miles during a spring blizzard (30 degrees and lots of wet, heavy snow on the road and my tranny was still reading 195F. I am running a Raptor skid plate under my tranny. I have to say, it does make me wonder how warm it will get when towing my boat on a hot summer day. So I have some concerns, but you and I are experiencing very similar tranny temps.

My '24 5.0 runs in those ranges winter and summer whether it's around town or highway speeds in the mountains or pretty much any terrain. I know with a 5k trailer behind it on a 900 mile trip it stayed at those Temps using tow haul mode and cruise at 65.
Just my experience 👍

Ive made several trips between Ft Worth, TX and St. Louis, MO in the past 3 months and my temps are in that same range, unloaded. I havent towed my boat over 75 miles yet but that one trip was also in that range.

Its my understanding that the 10r80 runs a little hotter than older transmissions do and anything from 195 to 220ish unloaded/light loads is considered normal. Purportedly the ULV fluid is designed to handle up to 230 safely.

My ‘23 runs similar temperatures even when towing a Travel Trailer at @ 7,000 lbs.
Towed from Florida Panhandle to New Mexico and back. Temps were still in same range.
I also have a Raptor Skid Plate under the transmission.

i just watched a great Youtube video comparing Mercon to Amsoil and outlined the differences between the additives that the Mercon ULV doesnt have. What the mechanic outlined on fluid additives with strength to amspoil sounds plausible that the mercon fluid may be the cause of the 10 speed issues.
i am planning on switching to amsoil on my first ATF fluid and filter change at 10k on my new tremor.

Your temperatures are very normal. I wouldn’t get concerned unless it started pushing 230°. There’s no fluid to air cooler on these trucks like there used to be and the fluid itself is more or less designed to run very warm.

i think the 10 speed trans will need a more frequent change than what may be factory spec. The trans fluid is everything to these trans working properly and for longevity.

I 100% agree. I did my first pan drop at around 18,500 miles. I’ve had a bit of a bug with 2nd to 3rd and it did help a little but it’s still there regardless. I was low on fluid from the factory as well. I also swapped to the Raptor transmission cooler at that time to alleviate any potential issues of higher temps. Despite what they say is acceptable, higher temps break down things much faster.

mine works fine but , its kinda like a little stutter or flutter between it finding the right gear only at certain times like its trying to make adjustments between rev's to find the best gear, very slight. i've noticed if i use the throttle a bit smoother in acceleration that works best. of course when I mash the pedal to accelerate, i have zero issues. lol
But I will be doing the trans fluid filter replacement early at 15k and adding amsoil vs the mercon. Amsoil said that the dropping of trans pan and filter only would remove about 4 to 5 quarts.
* I had zero idea the 5.0 held nearly 7.7 quarts of oil. but thats a good thing for this motor. Ive got 4,300 on the motor and Im still at 61% oil life. but 5k its getting changed.
FYI- I just signed up or a preferred account with amsoil.

I have a 2023 and my pan warped at 27k miles 500 miles from home. I upgraded to a PPL pan and never see above 185-190F. The only real issue is ~205 needed to check fill level. The plastic pans do fail and have been told it’s a known issue. The heat cycles is what causes them to warp. Argh! It was under warranty but I was out $650 for rental car to get home and also out a vehicle for 45 days. Mechanic shortages!

I did the PPE pan when I did the cooler and it would make sense why the transmission has quite the delay in warming up if it’s below 40° even with the engine coolant warmer. I completely blanked out that the pan is acting as a very good heatsink, I generally look at a lot of things like that as more for show than purpose, like diff covers (unless it’s banks) lol. Probably a way better and simpler mod than the entire cooler for most people’s needs

I’ve been thinking of putting a PPE pan on mine. Want to put some new fluid in anyway so may as well while the pan is off. I’m almost to 24k miles

This is where I got mine but you can shop around any of the various sites that sell truck parts. I went with the all black just because but if you want to save some cash the raw aluminum is the cheapest option. There is also a deep pan version but I didn’t do it, mainly because I didn’t want to test if the Raptor skid plate fit with it

Here is a service kit that includes the pan, ULV, gasket, and filter

I’m going to be changing mine as well.
Originally I was going to go with the B&M but I’ve decided to go with this kit instead.
