What's up with the console shifter?

I picked up my December order 401A last week and I've been really impressed so far. No problems during the 500 mile drive home from the dealer. I'm at 800 miles now and I've had an issue with the shifter twice this week.

It seems the notches that you feel when shifting get out of sync with the indicator light (PRND). Sometimes there is an extra notch between gears. Like shifting down from park to reverse, the shifter physically moves down a notch but it doesn't actually get to reverse until you shift it down another notch.

Today I put it in reverse, the camera came up on the screen and I instinctively checked my side mirriors and hit the gas. All I heard was the engine rev. I looked back down and the reverse camera was gone and the truck was in neutral. At this point it seemed like there was a ton of play in the shifter.

Anyone else ever have an issue like this? If I fold the shifter all the way down and back up it starts working normal again.

Mine is pretty wacky too... sometimes I just want to put it in park and it auto moves slowly to park, instead of just letting put it in park. I also could not shift one day and then noticed a message on the dash asking if I wanted to drive with something plugged into an outlet. I had to select okay to shift out of park.

I saw someone on FB post about having two Neutrals. They put a video up and it showed exactly what you are describing.

For the first time, Saturday afternoon the truck would NOT shift out of park. The shifter was legitimately stuck and would not move. I ended up turning the engine off, opening the drivers door and then closing it and restarting the engine. That seemed to fix it. Only time it’s happened to me, but a quick google search found I’m not alone.

I really hate the center console shifter, its my biggest pet peeve on the whole truck. Just feels cheap and I was worried it might not function properly some day, looks like I'll be worrying about that sooner than later. Why can't ford just get rid of it so I can have more space like the 250's?

My Expedition has the dial, I hated it when I first got it. Still don’t really care for it. But the new F-150 shifter feels so cheap and flimsy. I get it there is no physical cable anymore, But at least they could have made if feel real. My wife’s Aviator had piano keys to shift it and it seems to be the best way to do it. Push D for drive and it goes in drive. Never passes any other gears. Keeps the counsel open as well.
