I was ready to pull the trigger yesterday but something got in my head to look more into what topping out was and the extended length of the 5160s. Now I'm concerned about upgrading.

My useage is mostly daily driving, decent amount of towing 7k lbs plus, and occasional offroading (maybe 3 to 6 times a year).

After going this weekend and seeing the amazing capabilities of the Tremor, I now see full extension as happening regularly offroad, at least over obstacles.

So, I guess my question is, will I have issues with the Bilstein 6112/5160 upgrades with a 1/2" spacer on top of the 6112s and the bump stop in the rear removed, replaced with the Airlift airbags? Are limit straps the magic part to get this to work? Or should I just replace my stock shocks with stock shocks and forget the lift? Bilstein money is about the most I want to spend on this upgrade but I now have a better idea why folks choose to go Halo or Icon.

Thanks for your help!

Pics or it didnt happen - well, videos are better.

I don't think you'll have trouble with the extension of the 5160s on the rear. If I recall they had just a bit more extension than the factory units. When I replaced mine with 5160s the 5160s were a half inch longer or so when fully extended. I guess you could take your rear shocks off and check the length at full droop.

Thanks! Probably just overthinking it.

I found oem is 30.5" vs the 5160s at 29.5. But also found online apparently our leaf springs may actually be the limiting factor coincidentally at 29.5". I think so long as the shock isn't the only thing holding the axle there it should be fine on occasion.

The OEM bump stop is the limiting factor in the rear for my truck with 5160s. 29.5” on the extended side with the stuffed side on the bump stop. If you take them out make sure something limits the travel.

In the front the 6112 is the limiter for full extension and it’s designed for that. I also have a 1/2” spacer on top.

Ohhh I see how you're getting that! So, I need to go full stuffed on the one side and measure how much I'm being kept off the rails and compare to what it'd be if I had retained stock bump stops.
Looking on Airlifts site it seems the frame mounts, bags and cradles would be taller than the stock bump stops so I may be in decent shape. Thanks so much!
